now, a lot of people look across canyon land, say, in southeast utah where this picture is, and it's not really clear how you get around, how you get from place to place. but if you know this place well enough you know right over this lip of white sandstone, if you go right over the ledge and hang your foot over this side, you can't see it but you can feel it with the tip of your foot, there's a little toe hold down there, then if you get on that toe hold you drop your other foot down and there's another toe hold. it happens a thousand years ago somebody carved just a series of toe holds down this rock face. and you climb down those and they lead to a ledge and the ledge wraps around underneath here and it drops down into another spot that you go through a saddle and around to the other side and through another saddle and down and around. it's this circuitous route that's constantly carrying you down deeper and deeper and this is the landscape is just covered with these. i don't take maps out there any more out into this place because it's all memory. this place is the map. i went do

canyon park with its dramatic outcrops and hills. just a quick review of the history, this area was once ranch land back in the 1800's. it also became known as little as determined, because of the number of dairies and alpine conditions. in 1892, the city's first electric streetcar was built in the ferry building, in downtown san francisco. this was in hopes of bringing people out to the neighborhood to buy real estate. but it was 1996, the earthquake, which brought most people into the neighborhood as it became a refugee camp at that time. these were the refugee shelters at the time. many of the residents are staying and buying up cheap lots. the commercial district of the village was well established. you can see that this time, the streets are empty. the streets were paved in the mid-1920's. the planning area is quite small, compared to the ones that have come before you. this is 12 blocks or 13 blocks, stretching from the park to santa fe ave. the main focus is the six blocks around the bart station, encompassing the commercial district and streets that are nearby. another feature of this area is that it is a high
