capitol. trump himself revealed the news today in a statement, saying he had received a letter from prosecutors "stating that i am a target of the january 6th grand jury investigation, which almost always means an arrest and indictment." he added, "horrifying news for our country." such a target letter is a clear indication an indictment is likely to come soon, possibly within days. sources tell abc news, trump's aides and attorneys spent the day calling around to see if anyone else had received a target letter. let's go straight to capitol hill and manu raju. what are you hearing from lawmakers?blicans and democrats still taking in all of the details. many of them are in hearings and catching the news as it's ub folding by the minute. the house committee, i talked to some of the members who are focused on what's going on now in the hearing room. but the question for the house republicans is how they plan to explore and dive into this plea agreement that seems to be back on again between the president's son and the justice department. they have contended all along that this initial agreement, in their view, was a sweetheart deal. this came from a wide range of republicans on the committee, as well as others in the senate. one of the big questions will be what they plan to do about the u.s. attorney in this case, david wies, the trump-appointed attorney, someone who was a hold over. the justice department agreed to allow him to testify about this investigation to try to rebut allegations there was improper interference from the justice department. i asked jim jordan about wlhet

people know that folks died at the capitol on january 6th. and this is about the integrity of our country. this is about democracy. is it different this time? could it be different this time? what are you hearing from your sources both inside the campaign and in just general political circles if this could be the time that something happens with the poll number for donald trump with his base? >> first of all, we can see there's real alarm in the trump camp. the former president's lengthy, lengthy, him breaking the news that he had received this target letter betrays that. i think we have to look at this, the fallout here in two different parts. first is the republican primary. we know that his indictment in the mar-a-lago classified documents case as well as the one in new york state did not dent his popularity. we know in fact his poll number only went up in the republican party. but some in the gop think could, and i emphasize could, it seem like governor desantis' campaign is based entirely on being the next man up if trump were to implode
