the number of lawmakers on capitol hill saying we have to do something to give the secret service assupport as if theyneed heading into this critl final weeks of the campaign. >> had this passes a house with democratic support. is there a way we know things work differently in the senate. is there a way a republican senator who has an objection with this a bill to hold up this bill passed september 30 and the government shutdown deadline? >> has been the timing issue how quickly the house can send it over to the senate. if the once ate there and really good shape to get this done before september 30 deadline when funding runsg out. if it drifts intoin later in the week friday or even later then we start to run into some problems. as we know any one senator can delay the process. this is why senator schumer is asking for bipartisan cooperation on both sides. any one senator can blow down this process can throw roadblocks in the way and try to drag this out and make it as painful as possible for the other side. what is mitch mcconl telling republicans in the senate? guest: mitch mcconn

the secret service has already been in the microscope on capitol hill. actually created in house a bipartisan task force to investigate the incident. to investigate the security failures. there was a congressional hearing which led to the resignation of the former head of the secret service. now this task force is making clear that they're going to add this to their plate. they said they requested a briefing from the secret service as well. they said they're going to request this incident. i suspect the security protocol or lack there of are going to be a key area of focus for them. look the officials said today at that press conference that the perimeter around the golf kous was course was not secured in the same way as if he were president. but there's already some calls in the republican party about why trump isn't currently receiving the same protections that are afforded to current presidents especially given that there was already an assassination attempt. all of those things are going to come into focus over the next few weeks while congress is in

joining us now, from capitol hill, nbc's julie tsirkin.through the house? >> reporter: that remains to be seen when the house takes it up later today. even members of johnson's leadership team don't expect that he will have the votes to get this across the finish line to even get this bill and that election bill to the senate as you mentioned here, but johnson, of course, trying this again. remember a couple of days ago, he was going to put this on the floor. he ended up pulling it. he spent the whole weekend on the phone working the phones trying to talk to his members to convince them to at least move this ahead so that then if it doesn't pass, they can put this in the democrats' court. we have been talking all year how johnson is operating with a very, very, very thin majority here, so he's almost certainly going to need democrats in order for any bill to keep the government open to pass. he has several members who will not vote for any bill for any continuing resolution to fund the government, no matter what sweetener he puts on it. li
