joining me is the ceo, paul carey. it's great to have you. thank you for being here.of optimism about the u.s. economy? >> we haven't seen this in our data. we've been capturing this for year. maria: you've never seen this kind of optimism. >> we've been talking to ceos just after the election, towards the end of the year. and all roads lead to america as a consequence. this wasn't just global optimism, wasn't just american optimism, it was optimism directly correlated to the win of the election by president trump and that's across industry and across region. if you think about domestic u.s. companies, thinking about growing their operations in the u.s., think about international companies thinking about expanding operations in the u.s. which means for jobs, more investment and more opportunity. it's an unparalleled level of appreciation in optimism. maria: that's amazing. does it all go back to policy, the fact they're expecting deregulation, expecting their money to be treated well with lower taxes and investment opportunities, growth? >> there's a number of key poi

she joins me now on the show along with lawyer mariah carey. little bit about where you are right now and how you and your family are doing. >> hi, ayman, thank you for having me in your in your show. and now i am in the north of gaza, in a small city. the us embassy told me over a year ago that me and my three children were approved to leave gaza to exit gaza, but when the final list was published, i learned that only me and two of my children have the permission to leave, and the israeli didn't give permission to my teenage son. can you imagine me asking a mother to make this choice? to choose between leaving one child behind or keeping everyone together in a war zone? so that's what happened. at least we are now all together as a family. and this shows that the american government forced me to do. >> maria. >> i constantly. >> maria, let me ask you, you're representing multiple americans in similar situations to ever since the lawsuit was filed, has there been any communication whatsoever from the us government on your part? and is it on the

-- ravitch very real accomplishments, but he could not have done this if weren't for governor hugh carey. he could only be independent because let him be in dependent. and i think that's important for people to think about sometimes governor or mayor is just appointing having a broad strategy laid out in let them do they need to do to accomplish that strategy you by referencing robert moses and the powerbroker those of us who read the book and think about the book often pair robert moses with jane jacobs, one is a hero, the other is a villain. i think your book tells a more complicated than than that. i'm wondering if you can sort of speak to the role that moses and jacobs played in the history of transportation policy in new york and how maybe our understanding of them not quite as nuanced as it should be right and sometimes people say you know quite understandably do we have to rehash the whole moses jacobs you know, whether you love the you're just tired of it. isn't this the past? but i found in trying to move forward, you do have to go back revisit this era because. what you think y

important one for folks like me who grew up watching the cubs on wgn and singing a daily duet with harry careyter we got home from school because slammin sammy sosa is going to be in the lineup. figuratively speaking, he will be there for the first time in years because he did at the end of last year, apologize for mistakes that he made in his heyday, he came clean. the ricketts family and the cubs have embraced him. maybe the hall of fame is next to agree. >> go ahead. >> all right, my fellow dems, listen to me. you have taken all the wrong lessons from this election. you think because these conspiracy theories worked on the right, they need to move closer to them? i'm talking about something like laken riley act where you think that this is somehow something that you have to do now. you don't learn how to change hearts and minds, learn how to fight, stop moving the overton window to the right. it's not going to work for you. we have to learn how to fight. we have to learn to stand up for our values and communicate them better to voters. all right, mark, i want to be debbie downer. >> i want

that's carey thomas. he also did not like teaching women. he derided his female students as academic imposture ers who meddled in the serious concerns of life. he wrote in his diary that teaching women history in was about as profitable as lecturing to stonemason as on the evolution of fashion. hmm. so he was desperate to. get away from bryn mawr. but an advanced degree. he was not having much luck. finally, he simply begged his professors, eliot adams, back at johns hopkins. oh, to just waive the normal degree requirements and grant him a doctorate, he put it very bluntly, and in writing. i need a degree. no. and amazingly. adams and ely went along with scheme. they waived the normal requirements. they gave him full credit for congressional government, though it did not meet the typical johns hopkins requirements for empirical research and so on. they promised to conduct his oral exam in less than an hour. they promised they would personally administer his examinations to ensure there would be, quote, no chance he could fail. you will pass
