that's according to new data from carfax. say it's an opportunity for scammers to install a counterfeit airbag as a replacement, putting drivers at risk. so joining us now for more insight is carfax editor in chief patrick olsen. patrick, thank you for joining us this morning. thank you for having me all right. so patrick, this is the worst case that we've heard of. so far happened according to the national highway traffic safety administration where several people have been killed by these cheap airbags. what can you tell us about this? >> so, what happens is, scammers will import these bags typically from overseas, and it will cost them a couple hundred bucks a piece, but they'll sell them for about $1,000 a piece. and 1 or 2 things could happen either. nothing happens when you're in a car crash and there's no airbag coming out to protect you. or in some of the cases that the nhtsa mentions, they can explode with so much force that they send metal shards into the cabin of the car. >> so two people were, in fact, disfigured
