let's start with carl cameron live here in new york city. tell us more about the delegate math here in this state. >> reporter: there's 27 congressional districts and three delegates per each. and, first of all, a candidate has to get more than 20% in order to be eligible for delegates. if they get 50% of it, they get all three. if nobody gets over 50%, the top two split it. the winner, the plurality candidate gets two and the other candidate gets one, which is why kasich thinks he can get as many as a dozen delegates over the course of today's voting. tonight that would put donald trump at 83 of the 95 delegates and that's well within target even before the convention. this will be a big momentum builder for donald trump. it's not a question of whether he's going to win. it's the size of the victory. if he does get north of 80, it makes him possible for him to still get enough delegates to vote. there's been a lot of work trying to slow him down but it is telling that kasich and cruz have moved on to other states in recent days in order to

carl cameron is live in washington. carl, it's a new day. >> reporter: well, trump's blocked cruz from 1,237. and now he's even trying to court the establishment a little bit with a trip to indiana today where he is having a meeting with governor mike pence. indiana's a red state that's going to vote two weeks from now. and cruz is really hoping to win there. trump is going to try to knock him off again. and if trump could pull off a victory in the hoosier state, that would be a huge step for momentum for him. trump's new hires are washington insiders with expertise in organizing convention tactics and election law. and he's digging in for a long and bitter fight. at the same time, his new advisers are trying to build more professional operation, really. and there's a handful of people he had until just a few weeks ago who were working with him but they were in many ways sort of newcomers. and many of them are a little bit upset about being layered in their jobs, et cetera. but there's a handful that argue that listen, w

carl cameron is live in pennsylvania. hough is this looking for trump tomorrow? >> reporter: pretty good. there's 172 delegate alts stake. five states from maryland through pennsylvania here, delware, connecticut and rhode island, and he is pretty much leading in all the state that have polls or have had recent polls shelf case up double digits. one poll, up 20. and 1 2 delegates are lot but each state proportionally allocate delegates and each state has depth rules. trump has been complaining compe systemming rigged and corrupt because of the very thing they goetz to happen in pennsylvania where 53 delegates are up bound. a big delegate purse, and even if trump were to win big he wouldn't get the full body of the first. it's going to be proportional and some cases the unbound delegate hey not not get those because cruz has been out ma jury outma howeverring him in the delegate hunt. >> doesn't sound like the "krasich" concept is real. is a discussion on whether a "krasich" could do this? >> reporter: forgive me if i say cruz and kashich as opposed to "krasich."

. >> chief political correspondent carl cameron live at trump tower tonight. carl? >> big victory for donald trump in new york. it's not clear, exactly, how many delegates he will win of the 95 that were up for grabs tonight, but it looks clear that he will break the 50% margin statewide which would get him 14 at large delegates. and the associated press and our own team is tracking this closely. and it looks possible for donald trump to reach his stated goal of 80 to 8 a delegates. right now it looks like he has at least 78, which means he has won with 50% a significant number of the congressional districts from which three dels can be won by a candidate if that candidate crests the 50% majority line. trump was hoping for a night like this. as you heard in that statement he was making there in his sort of victory remarks earlier, he does not believe that ted cruz can now win the nomination with the 1237 delegates trump's camp believes they have locked the out of. it was never a chance mathematically for john kasich. so, donald trump may be in the middle of a huge s

carl cameron in d.c. what's the area reaction to cruz-fiorina. >> not a lot of enthusiasm. obviously just a day old and they will fan out across indiana, and how to cruz has another surrogate in his would-be running mate. carly fiorina is a very aggressive and tireless campaigner and a wonderful attacker on hillary clinton because she is a woman, and she can sort of neutralize the left's assertions that run runs are waging -- republicans becaming a war on him. she only got to the new hampshire primary and dropped out shortly after that, but after the first primary she was gone, and there were unfavorable problems with fiorina when she was a candidate. her history as a ceo, though she broke enough another lot accomplice ceilings, she made enemies. she was at the top of a corporation frat food chain and that's an aggressive place to may in, and she made some enemies. so its helps cruz in the sense he has stolen the buzz. it doesn't help in the sense that donald trump is still the buzz master, and today he had bobby knight, the famous indiana basketball coach. and you in india
