joining me now from washington, carl hulse from the new york times.tory today looked at the hurdles in order to adopt gun control measures. evan osnos writes for the new yorker. his article, called making a killing looks at the business , and politics of selling guns. i am pleased to have both of them on this program. let me begin with you, carl? give me a sense of what has happened so far. what might happen for the rest of the week as well. carl: as you said the senate , voted down these proposals yesterday. it was fairly predictable. even though everyone in the senate and probably most americans would agree people on terror watch lists shouldn't buy guns, nothing is easy in washington. there is a lot of politics at play here. so democrats voted, republicans voted for theirs, didn't go anywhere. charlie: what happened? karl: it was an embarrassing defeat. everyone walked out feeling a bit mortified they couldn't do anything. charlie: mortified because they because they have succumb to lobbying? carl: it seems like such a straightforward proposition.
