. >> carla hayden, give us a preview of the book festival. >> it is going to be one of my favorites because i am a big nonfiction fan and the types of authors we will have from david mccullough to jd vance whose book is on every reading list you can imagine in every book club. i am thrilled. >> host: how many offers do you invite? >> guest: when you think about a one day festival, the national book festival and you have over 100 authors from children's authors, illustrators, graphic novelists, all these different authors, 100,000 people come in and celebrate books and reading, you can't have a better time. i'm prejudiced because i'm a librarian but any reader or anybody that wants to get inspired, the book festival is the perfect place. >> host: the seventh the book festival, your second, your personal your second? >> guest: is my second. i was sworn in and one of the first things i had to do was go and be at the national book festival last year and it was so inspiring. this year we have even more activities for young people in particular, children, activity stations and things that i you k

they will be future carla hayden's and i want to ask you please, stand up. if you could inspire them with just a few words. >> you inspire me. you are the future. look at you guys. [applause] i love this because you are young ladies with different outfits, i'm trying to get a t-shirt, i'm just saying right now. this is the other thing, reading can still be cool and you can read what you want and this is just can't take advantage of it and know that reading is cool that you can do anything. one of the joys of working with young people, and i want to get all of your names because in that 20 years or so, when you become an author o were you are doing your thing, don't forget us because we will be able to say that one of the members, a couple of the members or all of the members of the group are now doing this, this or this and we were there when they got started, so know that we are all here to support you. invite us to the emmys or whatever. [laughter] hwe will be there saying we knew her. so that is another thing you will have to deal with. thank you. >> that

[applause] [applause] >> thank you so much. i must tell you, i have had the warmest welcome in mississippi, and my mom is tuned in right now to c-span. we talked last night about getting the right channel and doing it all like that. she is thinking you now for the wonderful welcome and all of you. i'm telling you, going to miss welty's house last night, i wanted to stay there. the books were everywhere. i talked to one of the guides who said people would walk down the street and see her in the window and they knew she was there and she was writing and she always came back home to jackson to write and that's where she got her inspiration. i was able to visit yesterday, and congratulations on the third book festival in the state of mississippi. ms. holly, i don't know if you know, ms. holly was instrumental in working with first lady laura bush with the first texas book festival first she got it going. then when she came in she said i'm coming back home to mississippi to start work on t
