we are moving on to the report from the director of the mayor's office on disability, carla johnson. >> thank you cochair supanich and councilmembers, carla johnson on the mayor's office on disability. i have two items on my directors report. one is a quick announcement about staffing changes and second will be a little tour of the mod website. i wanted to let you know that john paul scott, our deputy director for architectural access has chose n to take a promotional appointment at the department of public works working as an access coordinator. john scott has been with us for 10 years and accomplished many amazing things especially around our ada transition plan. he is well-known throughout the city for his skill, his mentor ship, his ability to move a project forward in spite of the many bureaucratic hurdles we face. it's going to be a great loss for our office to say good-bye to john paul. he's not really gone from us. what we have now is a very huge additional resource at the department of public works. he'll still be doing access work for dpw. he's gone but still very much with

membership of the 45 people on that task force, we've heard carla johnson. one other person was appointed but almost never came. so two people out of 45 to represent 20 percent or more of the city. nobody from the para transit councilman from amongst you folks from adult adult services from the committees, nobody from the committees was a part of this. there is some statements made about the benefits of some of the funding proposed. the elevators, we all agree there is a need for elevators. but i pointed out and nobody yet has responded. the stations are owned by bart. it's their property. muni is a renter. typically a tenant doesn't give a landlord free improvements. i have general asking is muni getting a rent credit. silence doesn't build confidence. another thing is millions of dollars on canopies at entrances. the claim was it will reduce wear and tear. when you walk on the street, anybody can throw anything on the para pit. anybody can drop anything on the escalators. it doesn't make sense. you saw a diagram on muni. you have to realize some of the pro

i'm carla johnson the director at the mayor's office on disability. i want to start by wishing everybody happy ada anniversary month. on sat july 26th, we'll be signing the 24th disability act. and there will be a lot more discussion about a history of the disability rights movement. so i will defer any further comments until later. i have five things that i would like to share with you today. the first is an introduction to a new staff member. the second will be a quick report about disaster planning. the third, a report back on elevators. the fourth, an update on mod's website project and the last a shout out to independent living resource center san francisco's grand reopening. so first on staff introductions. i'm delighted to be able to introduce tom. he's seated in the back of the room. tom is a senior building inspector coming to us after 15 years at the department of building inspection. some of the projects he's worked on at dbi was to coordinate training for the staff there including training around enforcement of the disability access rights

draw upon what was said here or the mirror image reverse of what wasn't said, remember earlier carla johnson talked about the website being 508 compliant. notice in today's presentation or earlier, they didn't talk about being 508 compliant. one 1 person i know who works for an agency for someone who is blind, they are not. that's something to check into. the question of public accommodation which was raised which means right from the beginning they should fully accessible. you heard today about accessing these services through a smartphone or tablet. that is not accessible at all. not everybody has or uses a computer or smartphone. just a regular old rotary dial phone. you can't use these services. that seems to rule out some people especially those who have a mobility and low income. there is problems with what hasn't been said. what hasn't been asked by c puc, by our city attorney, by our supervisors when they have these hearing by not all encompassing the information that you have been given. >> thank you. kevin lee? >> good afternoon. my concern is this: i ride taxis and now it's harder
