but i'd like to give a little read here, a little bit about kind of what us carlines, what we carlines were doing in the summer of 1972 to give you an idea of how important it was to be the three musketeers. in the summer of 1972, mom and i went on the road with dad. the road was always a fun adventure. some of my earliest memories from the road are waking up in a hotel room with both my parents dead to the world and spending the next few hours coloring, watching cartoons and staring out the window at the city below. finally, when i was starving, i'd nudge my parents awake. dad would run down to a local diner or store or, as he got more successful, order room service, and buy a bunch of those mini boxes of rice crispy ands a quart of milk. he'd then carefully take out his pocket knife, cut open those box and magically transform them into an instant bowl. abracadabra, breakfast was served. and although i'd never heard it, i'm absolutely sure that it was one of hose mornings that my dad heard that famous snap, cragging -- you. cbs 2's dave carlin is live in our newsroom with the new details. dave. >> reporter: the district attorney calls the convicted officer a killer and reckless but just made it clear he wants no prison time for liang. on november 20, 2014, officer peter liang and his partner were performing a vertical patrol inside the pink houses in east new york. and liang fired his gun in an unlit stairwell hitting akai liang was convict of second- degree manslaughter. and he faced a sentence of up to 15 years. the brooklyn district attorney just announced justice will be best served if liang's sentence is five years' probation with no jail time. but the condition he serves six months of home confinement with electronic monitoring and he perform 500 hours of community service. the d.a. says: >> reporter: akai gurley's family is aware of these sentencing recommendations. the gurley family's attorney sent us this reaction: >> reporter: brooklyn district
