vaughn hillyard in iowa, carlos curbelo is here, and eugene daniels. carlos and eugene are msnbc political contributors, wooet is -- wall street is cheering the fact that -- americans haven't seemed to notice. what do you think about that disconnect in political terms? >> these are the types of headlines that the biden administration needs. the macroeconomic data has been good, sentiment isn't, why, because inflation is backed into the numbers and americans haven't adjusted to the higher prices that are frankly here to stay. what we want is for inflation to stop going up, and it certainly seems like that's happening, which is why the fed announced some cuts for next year, which will also be helpful. we have seen interest rates skyrocket. mortgage rates have skyrocketed. as those come down, sentiment will likely improve, and that's really what is keeping president biden's numbers down, that people don't feel good about the economy even if the numbers are pretty good. >> you know, vaughn, it is arguably a useful political strategy for the trump team to sa

. >> so, joining us now is nbc's shaquille brewster and former republican congressman carlos curbelo lorida, an msnbc news political analyst. carlos, can you help explain what is going on there? >> well, jose, really donald trump is saying what he's always believed out loud. he does not believe he is limited by the strictures of power. he does not believe he's limited by the constitution. so, even though he says, well, i'm not really going to do this, he leaves some room, saying i'm going to do it for one day and you saw sean hannity push back there, but trump repeated once again that he felt that at least for one day he -- it would be okay to abuse the powers of the presidency. >> and, you know, this week, former congresswoman liz cheney warned what she thinks might happen if trump gets re-elected. listen to a bit of that. >> do you believe donald trump were elected next year that he would try to stay in office beyond a second term? he would never leave office? >> no question. >> you think he would try to stay in power forever? >> absolutely. he's already done it once. he's already a

former republican congressman carlos curbelo is an msnbc political analyst. the latest on these talks? >> reporter: well, we know that republicans have given another offer to their democratic negotiators including independent senator kyrsten sinema yesterday. we also know that that offer was tepidly received. chris murphy left the meeting with a sour look on his face. again, we don't know the concrete details of what's in this offer yet, it's something we're talking to sources about and trying to nail down. the bottom line here is it still appears according to conversations i've had, that this is still going a step too far in a direction the democrats and the house and senate might not be willing to accept. and of course then you have the dynamics of the republican-controlled house, a very slim majority for speaker mike johnson and growing slimmer by the minute with mccarthy, the former speaker set to depart. is that something that is even going to be put on the house floor. all the while, you have republicans in the senate, including senator lindsey graham w

. >>> joining us is former republican congressman carlos curbelo and former democratic congresswomanna edwards. congressman curbelo, i'm not going to play the comments again because they're so offensive. what went through your mind after hearing those comments? >> it was a "here we go again" moment. this is no surprise, this is how donald trump has always been. this is how he launched his political career in 2015. it's unfortunate. it's offensive, but at the same time, it's who donald trump is. it's also a reminder of the liabilities that donald trump will have on the campaign. he's not going to stop this, and this kind of rhetoric, ana, really turns off centrist voters. it turns off swing voters. even though trump is doing well in the polls right now, you can always count on him to be his own worst enemy. >> i think he thinks it works for him. congresswoman edwards, the other part of it is, we're not hearing a bunch of his gop contenders trying to use this against him. it was really only chris christie we heard this weekend pushing back directly. here was his response. >> he's disgu

former florida congressman and msnbc political analyst, carlos curbelo, and danielle moodie, host of the woke atf daily podcast. great to have all of you with us this hour. jessica, i'll start with you. your reaction to the startling report from the detroit news. i mean, on one hand, not really surprising because we have had the georgia tapes, we knew about the broader effort across multiple states. but now, we have yet again, according to the detroit news, recordings of this pressure campaign. could donald trump and ronna mcdaniel be facing some serious legal troubles here? >> yes. as we know, former president trump already is, but what do we specifically mean? well, now, we are potentially looking at federal bribery charges. he said do this thing, do this official act, don't certify, and we will get you a thing of value. we will get you an attorney. we could also potentially be looking at federal services prod. the other things, we have to existing cases pending against the former president that deal with election interference. so, it is possible that you could amend the complaints

joining us now, former republican congressman, carlos curbelo of florida and msnbc political analyst.re we are, carlos, comparing a political opponent to hitler was not something we would have seen before this cycle. do you think this helps or hurts biden with his pitch, especially the swing voters? >> well, chris, what the biden campaign is trying to do is remind swing voters all over the country why they have rejected donald trump and his movement in three consecutive elections, 2018, 2020, and '22, and it's because of this. because donald trump has been too divisive, too incendiary in the way he has tried to lead the country. he's been too obvious in the fact that he tries to divide the country for his personal gain, and that has cost him with swing voters. the biden campaign is hoping that reminding voters of who donald trump is, types of things he says, that that strategy will allow them to make a comeback here. because certainly president biden has been trailing in a lot of polls. the trouble for biden is that on the issue of immigration, he does poll very low, and most american

and former florida congressman, carlos curbelo also joins me. he is an msnbc political analyst. gentlemen, welcome to both of you. carlos, i want to begin with you. what do you make of the bargain in the biden white house. the bargain that the white house is considering along with senate democrats and congressional republicans? >> well, i think that their campaign promises and political realities that leaders have to deal with and we know that the biden administration is very much committed to this ukraine, israel, taiwan funding. we also know that according to polling, immigration is one of the presidents weak points heading into an election year. so it does make sense to me that president biden would be in a position to negotiate to try to get those foreign aid priorities that are so important for the administration and for national security. and also try to do something in a bipartisan manner to show those swing voters, and swing states all over the country that the administration is taking the situation at the border seriously and that they are willing to work with both sides

all right, let's bring in carlos curbelo, a former congressman from florida and the former politicalank you for joining us today. a nice and sunny day behind you there. but serious questions here including the justice department including texas having until january 3rd which is wednesday to confirm that it will not enforce the new state law where police can arrest people before crossing the border without authorization. where do you see this going? >> that is what we see happening all over the country, as a federal government continues to fail and comes to immigration policy, by the way, it includes congress is an action over the past few decades, you see states and cities like new york city, starting to take action some selves, and trying to resolve this pattern as best they can or at least alleviate the burden on their communities. obviously, governor abbott has been one of the most aggressive in this regard, clearly he has the support of a state legislator, and of the people of texas, at least the majority, because a lot of these border states and communities feel overwhelmed by a
