carlos saucedo is joining us live with the latest. >> reporter: larry and kristen, as you can imagine around this area is backed up due to the hazmat situation. the northbound 880 lanes reopened a few minutes ago. we ended up taking surface streets to avoid 880 altogether because of the lane closures. the leak is near winton avenue near the interstate. the sulfuric and nitric acid spill, as you mentioned, was reported after 12:30 this afternoon. no injuries have been reported, but a shelter in place was issued for the surrounding area, which essentially tells residents to stay indoors and close their windows until the shelter in place is lifted. we've seen crews wearing hazmat suits. they've been cleaning up this after stopping the leak. and right now we're told that they're working to neutralize the substance on the ground. it's believed that about 300 gallons may have spilled. so, again, that's why it's taking -- it's
