host: let's hear from phyllis in carmel, california. caller: thank you.question is what role does historical novelist play in recording our history? guest: phyllis, like to think of myself as the gateway drug to history, just like we were talking earlier about one of my big influences as a teenage reader was mary and her books about ancient greece. that sent me to read history of ancient greece because she intrigued me about it. so, what i hope for my book is that if he did intrigued by some aspect that readers will go to their history and learn more about it because i really believe in the importance of understanding our history and how it tragically repeats itself. we were talking earlier about the tragic repetition of the need to demonize the other, whatever that may be at the time like in spain. spain was powerful and wonderful for sport cultural programs, muslims, christians and jews were living side-by-side in creating and sharing intellectual advances together and then the demonization started and it started with muslims and muslims were expelled.
