jay carney discussing the president's plan to get americans back to work.that the president will roll out a couple of initiatives this week, and we are keeping an eye on that, but in the meantime president obama announced his nomination for the top economic post today, and he tapped allan krueger as the top economic counselor. president obama also said he will announce a new jobs plan next week that he hopes will have a bipartisan feel. >> i will lay out a series of steps that congress can take immediately to put more money in the pockets of working families and make it easier for small businesses to hire people, and put construction crews to work to rebuild the nation's roads and railways and airports and all of the other measures to help grow this economy. >> the president has called to extend the payroll tax cut at the end of the year, and to continue unemployment benefits. >>> and in just a few hours, searchers are heading out once again the try to find a missing ohio woman as her father pleads for people to come forward with any information. 23-year-ol

but we got a written statement from the white house press secretary jay carney a short while ago respondingis s&p downgrade. interestingly enough, it doesn't actually mention the words standard & poor's in the release. but they're addressing some of the same concerns that standard & poor's raised in their support on this decision. so carney says the deal to raise the debt ceiling took too long, both parties need to show their commitment to working together. i'll read one line from what he said. over the coming weeks, the president will strongly encourage the bipartisan fiscal committee as well as all members of congress to put our commitment to a sounder long-term fiscal path above our political and ideological differences. he's calling on this special commission that this debt ceiling deal is going to form, this committee of republicans and democrats, to tackle the big problems down the road in terms of ways of reducing spending like tax reform and entitlement reform. he's urging them to work together to convince people like s&p and the whole world that they can do that, they can work toge

dave carney said i'm going to be spending $40 billion in a campaign in texas.nd that money well. perry's a very aggressive fundraiser. very successful fundraiser. i think we'll be seeing results of that soon in the presidential race. >> here's the weird thing. i just showed this clip where he's telling people to buy his book. the campaign is saying that doesn't reflect his current thinking. there's kind of a disconnect? >> i think in that particular instance he wrote that book when he wasn't thinking of running for president. they have seen the value of in person campaigning. they did an experiment early in 2006 where they randomized perry's travel around the state. they were able to measure the positive effects of him being in a given city had on his approval rating, campaign contributions and volunteer sign ups. they realized that having perry set foot in a place was a lot more useful than having him do tv appearances there or just putting tv ads on the air there that's one of the reasons that perry has had an aggressive schedule that has created nice pieces
