carol. if you look over my shoulder, this is the final resting place of mh-17 and strewn with media now. hopefully they're being responsible. many are not. it has been open to locals. most importantly it has been under the control of the militias who are under or in this circle of suspicion for what brought mh-17 out of the sky and it crash land in the middle of a battle zone. this is the problem. this is why you must have international help. we pursued this with the self-appointed prime minister. he said he's been given access, he wants to cooperate, but he has what they believe to be the black boxes. he hasn't turned them over yet. there is a need for real corrective action here, right away. not just because of the politics, but because 298 people who had nothing to do with this conflict lost their lives. and they lost their dignity because of how this scene has been handled, carol. and that is a real shame. >> in your piece, chris, we saw what looked like a rebel carrying one of the plane

i'm carol costello. thank you so much for joining me. israel and hamas appear on the brink of war this morning, as another attempt at a cease-fire lasts only two hours. during the latest cease-fire the israeli military says three mortars and a rocket were fired from gaza. no one was hurt. it was a different story before that temporary truce. agony in gaza city over the deaths of four children, none of them older than 11. they were killed by an israeli gunship while playing on a beach wednesday. hamas is calling this a war crime. last hour i spoke with a spokesman for the israeli government about the investigation now under way. >> the preliminary results are as such, that there was a tragic misidentification of the target. we didn't want to kill those four boys. that was not our intention. not even -- say the opposite is true. had we known the missile was aimed at four young men like that we would have not sent the missile. we don't target civilians. we do not target children. that's our policy. we don't

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, carol. as you say, that cease fire really never even got off the ground because even just as egypt made that proposal of some kind of truce, hamas's military wing was turning that offer down saying the deal wasn't worth the ink it was written with and vowing to step up its attacks on israel. so when the deadline for that cease fire came into effect, just minutes after, we were out on the street here in gaza city and we saw a barrage of at least seven hamas rockets flying into the air and off toward israel. now, there were repeated rocket attacks in the course of the morning. one or two israeli air strikes in retaliation and then about an hour and a half ago, israel really started to step up once again its punishment of hamas militant positions and where it believes rocket positions and training camps are based in the space of about half an hour, we saw more than ten air strikes going in just ease of gaza city, down in the south and also up in the north of gaza at all points really in the cit
