carol? >> i know you're keeping an eye on that court hearing and when it begins we'll get back to you. i want to turn to polo sandoval right now. this morning the new york governor andrew cuomo announced a new investigation into the prison escape. tell us more about that. >> reporter: that's right, carol. this was an expected development here. new york governor andrew cuomo ordering the state's office of inspector general basically come into the equation and initiate their own investigation. they will be tasked with taking a hard look at the clinton correctional facility which is where these individuals escaped from ten days ago. this investigation will include bringing in an outside expert somebody that would be able to offer some perspective and a fresh look at the facility's security their infrastructure and policies and procedures. that individual would then provide feedback to see if there are any change that is need to happen at that facility to make sure that this does not happen agai

carol? >> so let me get this straight so the dogs picked up the scent three miles from the prison and there were some signs, there was some sort of bedding there at one time? >> reporter: that is correct. some sort of sign that this is the spot where they believe that these two inmates, richard matt and david sweat, were bedding down for a period of time. again, apparently finding food wrappers there, also finding either a boot or a shoe print. you know that you've got dogs out here who are trained bloodhounds to sniff in these particular areas. apparently they picked up on some sort of scent. this could be why we've seen this area of route 374 that has been shut down while this investigation continues. but again, still the big question how long ago if this was, in fact these two escaped inmates, how long ago were they there? were there plans for them to come back? still a lot of questions there but still a very significant lead. >> you stay right there, jason carroll. i'm going to bring in

you mentioned it carol. drug-resistant form of tuberculosis something known as an extensively drug resistant. there's moderately drug resistant and extensively drug resistant. what that basically means is the four first line drugs that are typically used to treat tu tuberculosis will not work in her case, so they're going to need to find other drugs that will possibly be of benefit to her. that's what's ongoing right now, carol. >> they're trying to track down everyone she came into contact with which seems impossible. >> it's a real -- we've seen this before with other types of infectious diseases even with ebola most recently carol. it's challenging. first of all, the flight, right? 15-hour flight india to chicago. airplanes as a general rule aren't great places for infectious diseases to spread because they're well ventilated. tb spreads in crowded places that are not well ventilated but that flight is going to be the first place they start to check within a few rows of where she was sitting. then they're

carol: great. -- carol: great. any other questions? >> angela crooks from the department of energy, and i had a question for naseo. just wondered if you're looking at distributed generation as part of the overall energy efficiency strategy? >> yes. renewables certainly as micro grids combined with power. bureau we have been working with a number of states and renewable state associations to see where that fits in. i think some of the challenges in that area are extremely depending on the state and issues you're in. in the west, a great deal of the resource opportunities sits on federal lands. it's traditionally been difficult to develop on federal lands and there are a number of states that if you look at the number of opportunities, much of it sits on federal land so that's a huge barrier we have to work through as an option. there are more technical barriers in terms of states that produce renewable power but perhaps don't use much of it so the power plan to that in my mind wasn't clear but i think there's a lot to do in that space.

i'm carol costello. thank you so much for joining me. a horrific scene in berkeley california after an apartment balcony collapses just blocks from the campus of uc berkeley. police say 13 people fell from that balcony. five of them died. hi dan. >> reporter: good morning, carol. what a heartbreaking situation. obviously there was some kind of party or gathering at this apartment complex late last night in berkeley. we're told this occurred just before 1:00 in the morning local time. we had a number of people apparently on a balcony and it just collapsed. as you said five people dead and at least eight taken to hospitals. this happened just a few blocks away from the university. we don't know if in fact these were students. but apparently these were all young people involved. and according to the minister of a parrish from ireland, we're talking about young irish nationals who were among the victims. this was really a terrible situation. police are at the scene trying to figure out how this collapse occurred. again, just a few blocks awa

i'm carol costello. thank you so much for joining me. i want to begin with a desperate manhunt for two convicted killers. we now know prison worker joyce mitchell provided escape tools, including hacksaw blades. she supplied those things to richard matt and david sweat before they broke free from a prison in upstate new york. that's according to two law enforcement sources. mitchell has not been arrested or charged as of yet. authorities say she is cooperating with police. >> she continues to cooperate. she continues to come in and speak to us and each day we're learning a little bit more information as to her involvement in this case and how she developed a relationship with these two men. i can't speak for miss mitchell but she may feel obviously some responsibility and guilt for her involvement, and she wants to help that situation or help herself out in her situation. >> all of this as bloodhounds pick up the inmates' scent at a gas station one mile away from the prison. moments ago i talked with one
