let's go down to our carol costello who's along the parade route. here at 10:00 last night. and i'm sorry you just missed it, anderson, but people were doing the wave, keeping themselves occupied. one of the most beautiful things about this crowd is no one is talking about politics. no one is talking about church doctrine. everybody's just talking about love. you know, there's a jumbotron set up over here on the grounds of the washington monument. so people could hear the pope's remarks when he spoke from the south lawn of the white house. when he talked about being a child of immigrants and he talked about america being the land of immigrants, a huge crowd went out because i want my photographer, jay, to pan around because you can see this crowd consists of all different nationalities. in just one little corner, i found people from vietnam, from china, from nicaragua, from guatemala, all across the world. this is america. this is the great melting pot. and when they heard the pope say that, and speak of his love for immigrants, it meant a lot to th

and my colleague, carol costello, is there with him as well. take me there, carol. >> oh, ashleigh banfield, i wish you could be here with me because this is unbelievable. it is amazing. the people are literally surrounding the pope. he is shaking their hands. he is touching them. it's just a beautiful sight. i'm glad you called them clients, ashleigh, because catholic charities say we have to get rid of terms like the poor and the homeless because it only dehumanizes these people who are only looking to regain their dignity. and that's really why the pope came here today, ashleigh. he wants to give dignity back to these people so they can lift themselves up out of poverty. i'm hoping that he sits down and eats with a few. and in case you're wondering, they're eating boneless breast of chicken and asian macaroni salad and steamed beans. a very simple meal for a very simple greeting by a very simple man who sends such a powerful message. >> and carol, as we watch him wade through the crowd, i can only imagine, this is a little unplanned and off s

carol costello standing on the sidelines of the pope's motorcade route. l are one of the people who got blessed. do you feel different? >> reporter: no, i didn't get blessed. the pope-mobile passed me by. i waved to the pope. he glanced at me and went on his way. >> reporter: no. you were blessed. supposedly he says he was blessing as he goes. >> reporter: oh, then i do feel blessed. thank you for saying that. i feel much better about myself now, chris cuomo. look behind me. is that not a beautiful sight? that is the basilica where the pope will be part of a mass that consists of 25,000 people. hundreds of people are still in line waiting to get on the campus of catholic university. just to get a glimpse of the pope. many of them have tickets to go inside that mass because he's going to make someone a saint today. a lot of the people standing in line are from latin american countries. they're from guatemala and ecuador and mexico. and this particular person that the pope will be ed i phiing naimd jane apair row serra is responsible for spreading christiani

out to the crowd with carol costello. this is the moment they have been waiting for. o to sister sledge. you can see the police lights flashing. everybody is waiting for the moment. some people have been here since 6:30 this morning. some of them slept most of the afternoon on blankets because of course you're not allowed to bring in too much like backpacks and things. and i'm telling you, i just can't -- i can't describe the feeling here. it is electric. you see people with their arms up, chris and poppy. they're ready to take that snapshot of the pope. they are ready to snap a picture of the pope as he goes by. we heard the pope will go around the ben franklin park way twice. that's the rumor. that's what everybody is is hoping for. because remember in washington he had the very short parade. he went down 17th, constitution, and then 15th. it only lasted 15 minutes. people waited for hours and hours just to get an eight-second glimpse of the pope. this time i think it will be much more than a glimpse. not much more. but if he goes around twice it will be so awesome.

i want to go briefly to carol costello live among the crowds lining ben franklin parkway, all hoping to get a glimpse of pope francis. we're about to lose her signal because of security reasons. carol, tell us what you're expecting, who should be passing by your location at any moment. >> okay, we don't know for sure what time the pope's motorcade will be going down ben franklin parkway, it could be 5:00, that's what everybody is hoping. when you talk about social justice and immigration, that really resinates with this crowd. this is the world catholic families event. there are people from all over the world here. they've gotten together to talk about their catholic faith and to reaffirm their faith when they see pope francis. i want to introduce you briefly. where's baby tarzan? right here. you guys are from? >> indiana, southern indiana. >> you have a plan for baby tarzan, what is it? >> yes, we're going to try to get the baby kissed by the pope. all these people we met today are going to try to help us get the baby kissed by the pope. >> all these people are from all over the coun
