the independent women's for um senior policy analyst along with carol markowitz join us.t do you make of this battle over in school in person, not in school in person, because no two cities seem alike on this. >> you know, you and i have talked about this before. for some reason, major american cities decided to either reinvent the wheel like new york city did and set up a completely new schooling system with cohorts and remote learning and some combination of it, and other cities just decided not to open at all. i think we made a gigantic mess of it. the european cities seem to have just opened. they didn't put in new filters. they are largely not wearing masks. they are not doing social distancing. they simply opened. neil: we hope to fix that. we have a bit of a problem with carol's sound here. but let me ask about where all this is going. as cases spike, and they have been spiking all over the place, there is going to be more pressure on elected officials which is always dangerous, to do something, and they end up doing something that's far more draconian than the iss

to new york post columnist carol markowitz on if this is proof that the lockdowns are not necessarilyom there, and anita laid it out really nicely for us. the lockdowns aren't working, right? cases are going up, people are dying, the icu beds are not there, so at what point do they say we need to shift gears here, because people are socializing indoors, right? and that's the problem. >> that's exactly it. i think we need to dissociate the idea that a lockdown means you're serious about doing something about covid. i'm very serious about fighting covid. i think there's a lot of things we should be doing that we're not doing, but i think lockdowns have universally failed. i think that, you know, when you close outdoor dining, you're pushing people inside their homes where they're more likely to contract covid. so we really need to be more thoughtful about this, and be much better if the politicians instead of saying mask up and stay home which nobody is doing including governor newsom, i think they say, look, you don't need to wear masks when you're hiking by yourself, but when you're c

here to discuss new york post columnist and parent carol markowitz. welcome.thoughts on initially hearing the re distribution of wealth is somehow the answer to everything >> so he's been saying this kind of thing all along. when he ran for president, i know few remember that, but his message of the money is in the wrong hands resonated with a full 0.0% of americans, so, he keeps pushing that very unpopular message, and the thing that's shocking here is that reviews in reference to schools. usually he talks about businesses or taxes or regulations or whatever, and there he says we're going to take the money away from the rich people, but here it's about schools. i really just don't quite get what he means, because a, he's already redistributed money all over the country because so many new yorkers have fled his policies but b, basically still closed in new york. our schools are only open part time despite what he says so we're all sort of at a zero and i guess we've reached equality. jedediah: yeah, he thinks that redistributing these resources, i guess he's t

warns this sets a terrible precedent here to explain new york city parent and post columnist carol markowitzirst -hand. if you can speak a little bit to what the issue is here, what the controversy is with the consent forms why parents may not want to sign them and what you think this is going to lead to. >> well the first thing is it just makes no sense. why are they testing a random sampled student at every school, you know, at some interval and the tests don't come back for like three days and so what's the point? what's the reason to pull kids out of class, give them a random test and then wait three days to see whether they're positive or not? if you're so worried about children spreading covid which again they're not because kids right now are last in line for the vaccine. that should really tell us all something, but if you're so worried about kids spreading covid have parents produce a negative test every week, or every some length of time, but they're not doing that and what they're doing instead is testing these kids without their wants present and that's going to lead to problems
