joining me now new hampshire democratic congresswoman carol shea porter. you're among the 39 democrats who voted for friday's republican-backed bill by fred upton. meanwhile, were got the national journal coming out saying at aca obama care is a bill you that voted for, and now it's on life support. we have democratic colleagues saying that the bill guts the aca by allowing to sign up for inferior plans. what was your motivation going the way you went? voting for the other 39 democrats? is this strictly out of self-preservation? >> no, not at all. i said in 2010 when i was voting for the health care law, i went there to do what was right for my constituents. and i didn't think to the congressman about this, but in my particular instance, i looked at this as -- it's not on life support -- as i do, about all of the help that it's provided for americans of all ages, and people now have access to health care. but you know, there are some problems with it. and in new hampshire, we did not have the website up. >> right. >> and so there's nothing to compare. and

just ask carol shea-porter. just ask annie kuster. they see it every day in the now sadly unrepresentative house of representatives -- [applause] yes, there is very little daylight between the tea party and the republican party. think about it. both would have millionaires do less. cut taxes for multinationals. reduce social security benefits and medicare coverage, cut student loans, cut veterans benefits, invest less in education, invest less in affordable college, do less to combat climate change, do less on gun safety, do less on immigration, and keep people trying to survive on the minimum wage from ever earning another penny. the only think they want more of the only think they want more of is rush limbaugh. [booing] rush limbaugh is not an applause line here in new hampshire, i see. but the real and serious question we have to ask one another, the question we have to ask one another as americans is this. how much less do we believe would be good for our country? how much less education would make our children smarter? how much l

. >> i thought it was interesting they mentioned carol shea porter who voted with all of the tea party nut cases in the house for the upton bill on friday. i think he's right that there's a lot less difference between the so-called main stream republicans and the tea party. that's probably to the tea party's credit. the tea party movement has moved into the republican party and moved that party to the right. >> let's talk what about he said specifically about bringing us over the cliff with the government shutdown earlier this fall. ted cruz, one of the tea party senators from the 2012 election, sort of the ring leader of that. look, on tactics, i think ted cruz was probably wrong. i think he misled a lot of conservatives, a lot of tea partiers in thinking they could buy shutting down the government or threatening the shutdown, they could defund obama care. the fact that he was fighting what was coming with obama care with all of the cancellation, all of the people upset about their coverage getting worse and losing their doctors and their providers. so with the tea party is fighting t

and moving ahead to some of the races in florida, in iowa, and in new hampshire where carol shea porters seeking a re-election. how will it determine what the rest of the night will be a year from now for each party. >> carol shea porter and rahal. new hampshire is one of the most fickle states out there. good republican year, republicans will win maybe both house seats. good democrat year, good democrats win both. in congress, out of congress, back and forth. it's a generation -- it's a state that's very, very acutely sensitive. to national political directions and not a bad barometer to look at. when he came to congress, west virginia was a very democratic state. as social issues have started to take ahold and becoming more and more important, and then you fold in coal, the democratic party is in really, really, really bad shape and west virginia. and where the question is if any democrat could win in that district, it would be nick rahal? can they win on what republicans call the war on coal and rahal's effort to distance himself from the party on that. one is a unique problem to tha
