how much will this cost taxpayers in north carolina? questions are unanswered but it seems like we are betting everything on funding. geoff: what about the cost and what is the plan to prevent cost overrides? secretary kinsley: i would have love for us to expand medicaid long time ago but the advantage of going this far down the path is we have other proof from other states. medicaid expansion controls costs for health care and help save rural hospitals. we know the federal government is committed to maintaining the 90-10 plan we have worked out to have hospitals pay for the 10% match, this is cost contained. this is a smart investment. right now, we pay for this care for people no matter what when you end up in the emergency department with a stroke or major cardiovascular event. reaching them at a point of prevention and getting them on preventative care is a lot cheaper. this is not only a smart investment for rources, it will make a large difference over time. geoff: it has been more than a decade that the supreme court ruled states

she is outside the courthouse in walterboro, south carolina.nity to speak with the south carolina attorney general as people arrive. what did the ag tell you? >> reporter: erica, jim, i also just saw defense attorney jim griffin arrive as well. proceedings are supposed to be getting under way any moment now, we do know the torrence are here. that's usually a good sign that things are going in the right direction for them to begin. i spoke with attorney general allen wilson who was not the lead prosecutor on this case, that was creighton waters, but attorney general wilson did do some cross-examination during this and he said that he was happy to allow creighton waters to do this. he had been diligent about this case for more than a year. he described to me sort of staying at the same hotel in walterboro that all of us are staying at right now, this hampton inn, calling it almost like a dorm room life where they were staying up to midnight, going over the case, revising how they were going to do things. he acknowledged as they have the entire ti

there's a lot of interconnectedness in south carolina. my family is from florence, south carolina. i went to school in this state, spartanburg, south carolina, it's not hard to find someone who knows someone here because so many of these communities, particularly in this part of south carolina, are so small. these are all people who do know each other or know of each other, and this has been a very tense, long trial, but you see- yeah, you see everyone seemingly kind of talk and make their way out of here. we do expect an appeal from the defense on this. that's one reason why the judge said to alex murdaugh he wouldn't expect him to say anything other than being innocent, but he did expect him to say something more than what he said in court today, which again was just him repeating i'm innocent. i would not hurt my wife maggie, i would not hurt pau-pau, and that's the language he kept saying and that's the language he used on the stands saying i would never intentionally hurt them. i did not do this. >> stick around for us, please, we have some of that from alex murdaugh's stateme
