caroline, let me begin with you. tell me what we know at this time as we tape this program at about 4:30 new york time and 10:30 parisian time. what do we know now? >> there has been several french media reports that the three suspects have been arrested according to the lib"liberation" newspaper a left-wing newspaper in france. however, at the most, the french interior ministry denies doesn't confirm or deny that these suspects have been arrested. according to several french media reports we have seen in the past few hours, these three suspects include two brothers, of french algerian decent. 32 and 34 years old who came back from syria over the summer. the third one who possibly was the driver in these attacks this morning in paris was possibly an 18-year-old homeless in paris. so at the moment we don't have confirmation of these arrests. but these coincide with the police reports we had earlier in the day, that these attackers are very well-trained and may have received some military training, maybe, in syria. ros

for more, let's bring in caroline hyde. a sense of how much this growth is about the bigger screens. >> the innovation, phenomenal. tim cook called this spectacular. investors seem to be agreeing. investors say these numbers are phenomenal. $18 billion in profit. the most on record in terms of corporate history. they are making $200 million a day. by the time i finished speaking, they wrapped up another half million dollars. they are managing -- look at where it is compared to its competitors. it takes ibm an entire year to make what apple has made in one quarter. it takes hp 20 two quarters to make what apple has made. if you had what microsoft and google have for this quarter, apple still smashes both of them combined. pretty phenomenal. it is the iphone 6 that came to the rescue. bigger screens. up to 5.5 inch screens. suddenly, you are getting the appetite from asia. samsung led the way. they always had these bigger phones. now, we are seeing sales up 70% in china. they are going to roll out far more stores. only issue

caroline, how much does bp need to pay the u.s. government?rs are mind-boggling, but this is good news? >> 13.7 billion dollars could be good news, that will be the maximum. it is thought to be the biggest ever pollution fine in the was industry, but not as high as it could be. a u.s. judge ruled the u.s. government was a little overzealous in thinking how many barrels of oil were dumped into the sea during the dramatic oil spill in the gulf of mexico in 2010. they feel the u.s. government was inflating this by about a quarter. it is not 4.2 billion barrels dumped, the judge thinks it was about 3.2 billion barrels dumped. less oil in the sea, a quarter less the fine. many of the lawyers are saying this is a major victory for bp. bp was more optimistic. they felt the u.s. was insatiable lysing this to the tune of 40%. not quite as low as they wanted, but it's getting there. >> how much does this set the scene for the trial? >> new orleans, it starts next week. the u.s. district judge will be setting the exact fine. he does not have to think $13

caroline has been covering the story from the beginning. where did these -- where do things stand this evening? >> has been a stressful day for this very small town less than 10 miles from the charles de gaulle airport northeast of paris. the city has never seen anything like this. all day, they were barricaded inside their homes. the children were can find inside schools -- confined inside schools. they were evacuated by buses throughout the day, but of course, they were taken out of the city not directly home, so parents were very worried. tonight at 5:00 p.m., we started hearing gunshots and explosions. that's when the police moved in on these two brothers and killed them, and then one hostage was read. -- free. >> what do we expect -- obviously, it's late there, but what do we expect in terms of the country reacting to the event as well as the search for the one accused person, the female, who still apparently has not been caught? >> that's the concern for all the police forces working on the case. the 26-year-old who is the girlfriend

caroline tucker shows us the possible reasons for the decline. >> for several years, guns have been a hot commodity in virginia. it's not until 2014 that gun shops like blue ridge arsenal in chantilly noticed a change. >> it's definitely been slower than i'm used to seeing. but not awful for us. >> the trend has been reported statewide. when you take a look at background checks done in virginia which are done for every gun sale there were just over 400,000 last year. a decrease of 15%. the slowdown is not surprisingly george mason associate professor professor. >> i think it's tens of thousands of guns. >> a lack of looming gun control legislation may play a role. >> there's also this. maybe a lot more gun sales moving towards gun shows and private exchanges on craig's list and other places. >> from 2011 until 2013 those background checks rose every year until now. >> i'm glad to hear that. i guess when i think about where i grew up i tend to think many people in virginia are interested in owning guns. >> sort of an artificial high. >> here at blue ridgearsenal, even though gun sales

in frederick, caroline tucker abc 7 news. >> congratulations. the washington animal rescue league brought some smiles to many people's face today. check this out. with the help of uber and animal planet puppies were delivered to people all across washington. for $30, people could spend 15 minutes cuddling and looking at faces like that one there. the money collected was directed to the nonprofit animal shelter and every puppy involved in today's event is up for adoption as well. for more information, contact the washington animal rescue league. u.p.s. driver was fired tonight after he was caught on camera damaging packages. ben lucas is his name. this is from houston. and he was scanning -- actually ben lucas was scanning surveillance outside his home after he got a package arrived in pieces. you see that there? his cameras caught the driver tossing the box over the fence damaging hundreds of dollars worth of ammunition chemicals and a machine that he'd used to clean guns. but it didn't stop there. the driver then went and urinated on the side o

caroline tucker explains why the county rejected the idea. >> arlington county elementary parents will tell you schools continue to be squeezed to the max. >> think it's so much. >> some think extra space needs to come from somewhere. >> somehow we have to expand some schools if they have some space or opportunity to see any land we can use. >> arlington's county board rejected a plan to build a new elementary school on county-owned land next to thomas jefferson middle school. >> it's about minimizing the impacts to the extent that we can thaurz -- there's a network of schools. once we build it it's there. >> it was slated for future park land for the county. the groups friends of t.j. park fought to save the space. >> the board made a great decision for preserving this park for future generations at least for now. >> the county did leave the door open for arlington public schools to come back if it does an analysis of county sites and school additions and provide an estimate of county funding needed. >> if we can get the answers to those questions, we're happy to take it up again. >>

grocery market as you suggest, caroline. what is sainsbury's promising to do to tackle the competition? i know they have a joint venture. what is their general strategy -- >> slashing prices more. sainsbury's said we'll cut them 150 million pounds in the next year. i'm sorry, 150 million pounds when another company is cut them by a billion pounds. we're going to slash the prices on 700 good. now on 1,000. asta is plowing 100 million pounds in one quarter. double the amount sainsbury's is spending in an entire year to cut their prices. they are looking at for the investor base cutting capital spending. they are going to be cutting costs. they may cut their dividend. this is a concern. they are having concession stores within sainsbury's. more all about food. what is the rest of their offering like? many feel this is not enough. >> what is the sales figure we're watching for today? >> down. 3.2%. clearly it is not going to be a good third quarter for sainsbury. stores open more than a year -- will it hit their full-year target
