doctors recently diagnosed carolyn with stage 4 breast cancer...she used the truck to get to and from chemotherapy. the day after we first aired the story of the stolen truck .. a person found it at a gas station at nellis and twain .. but didn't recognize it. they called a tow company to take it to impound, but the tow truck's driver recognized it from our story -- and called police. "i was looking at facebook this morning and somebody had said the truck was wasn't sure how to react ." carolyn? >> reporter: well, this flight departs every day from sfo to taiko's narita airport. today things did not as planned. fortunately there are no reports of injuries. united flight 837 returned safely to sfo after a mid-air emergency. as you can see from sky 7, one of the boeing 747's four engines was not working. witnesses say they saw flames shooting from it shortly after takeoff around 11:30 this morning. residents in nearby san bruno heard loud booms. >> i was upstairs, and i heard a large boom, several times though, more than once. >> i don't know what it was at first, but i kind of looked and it sounded real close, like to came up from up top so i figured it was an airplane. >> reporter: plane carrying 202 passengers and 15 crew members was heading to tokyo when the mid-air mishap occurred. flight tracker indicates it circled off the coast of santa cruz for some time. devon durant, a passenger on the plane and photographer with airline geeks shared this video of the 747 dumping fuel as it prepared to land. an abc bruno resident said it also dumped this chunk of ice

carolyn fox hasn't been seen since july, and her son is behind bars on a number of charges, including abusing an elderly or disabled person. candace sweat is here now in the news room with what we know. >> her son hasn't been charged today he made quote vague and inconsistent statements about his mother's whereabouts. >> reporter: carolyn fox was reported missing in early october by a friend, and investigators discovered she'd not been seen since july. search warrants reveal fox's son steven was questioned and told investigators his mother was on an island in the philippines. he also said he believed his mother visited friend in canada before going to the investigators followed up on the claims and discovered fox doesn't have a passport and never left the country. they've searched the home fox and his mother shared three times since she was reported missing. in an application for search warrants investigators stated they believe he's involved in his mother's disappearance and brought her bodily harm. on july 28th they took 28 items from the home, including shoes, a checkbook, computer
