carolyn malone reports. >> the shooting happened inside a well guarded hospital.he attacker was supposed to be protecting those inside. one of the security guard opened fire on three foreign nationals. people outside the compound heard the attack. i heard gunfire, and then i was told that three were shot dead. >> one of the leading institutions in maternal health care. one of those killed was a pediatrician, who had been working in the hospital for seven years. >> they were not carrying guns they did not have military uniforms they came here under immense pressure, this was an inhumane attack. and unfortunately it will impact our health service. >> the motive is not yet known, but there have already been a number of attacks this year. a photographer was killed and another journalist injured after being shot by a police officer earlier this month. as afghan forces gradually take over control of security, these types of attacks appear to show no sign of ending. carolyn malone, al jazeera. >> republican cazimmermann is a fellow at the trueman national security projec

carolyn malone has more. >> reporter: iranians ls get some of the cheapest fuel in the world.he price has gone up. >> translator: they should give the gasoline subsidies to us, taxi drivers. price of gasoline should be doubled and tripled for personal cars. >>> the iranian government still has a far bigger bill to pay. at the moment most iranians can apply for handouts. the president has tried to persuade people to go without the $14 a month by appealing to the wealthy on state tv. but 95% of the people said they still needed the money. the economy has been hit hard because of u.s. and european sanctions over iran's nuclear plans. inflation went from almost 9% to 40% last year. a quarter of people are unemployed, and the cost of living remains high. >> years of mismanagement has brought them to this point. the average iranian doesn't make much, and therefore, having the price of goose, an essential commodity go up 60 to 70%, will hit them hard. there's long-term structural issues that need to be addressed. iran has to sell its oil back on the free market without the imposition

carolyn malone has this report. >> reporter: this is where some of the hungriest women and children come to get food in bod ar. the world food program set up operations in what used to be a diamond and gold trading center, but there's not enough for everyone. local health workers say children are dying every few days from malnutrition. >> translator: i go to see and select the children who suffer from malnutrition, particularly severe malnutrition, and we find many of them, more than 200 to 300. >> reporter: diamond mining used to provide for christians and muslims here before the fighting between them started. now around 14,000 muslims live surrounded by christian fighters. many people are without enough food. the few supplies that get in are unaffordable. >> translator: everything is blocked. nothing comes in. it's very expensive to buy food. the amount of food that comes is very expensive. it's reached a critical stage. >> christian areas in the town have been damaged by the muslim fighters. the revenge attacks removed any chance for the groups doing business together. >> translator:
