and carolyn tyler joins us live. the assumption is that he took his life. have police confirmed that? >> no. we can assume that, law enforcement says we have to wait for the coroner to determine that. we did learn today that peter james thomas was wanted on a $70,000 outstanding warrant here in marin county on burglary, weapons and drug charges. and that is in addition to being a suspect in a shop lifting and assault case in san rafael on sunday. you know that incident prompted detectives to come to the extended stay deluxe hotel yesterday, led him to barricade himself and his girlfriend in his room. law enforcement ramped up efforts to end the standoff last night, using a crane to install a metal plate in front of the hotel window to prevent him from shooting towards freeway traffic, they say he did yesterday that, caused them to shut it down, for hours there. and every agency from marin county to sonoma county, state parks service, chp, san francisco s.w.a.t. team, fbi have been part of the operation. it included using cameras to peek in on the man who st
