abc7's carolyn tyler reports. >> reporter: when brian stow left the medical center in los angeles in may after being severely beaten outside dodger stadium, he was comatosed and on a gurney with a traumatic brain injury. leaving san francisco general hospital today, bryan stow is ready for rehab. his doctors say the giants fan is breathing on his own and eating and interacting with his family and even talking and responding. >> today i had a report back from the hospital that he is now gone to, and one of my colleagues said she mentioned my name to brian, and he said tell him i said hello. so i think that's a dramatic improvement from where he started to where he is today. >> the surgeon said it has been a rollercoaster in terms of treatment. stow had a piece of his skull removed and was once on five anti-seizure medications. he says stow has now begun to mobilize. meaning to move about. though he isn't walking, the surgeon says he is starting to meet mile stones. >> does this mean he goes back to work? does this mean he is running down the hall? no, not yet. what this does is it giv

i'm carolyn tyler. occupy oakland demonstrators are calling for a strike on wednesday city teachers say they will take part. that is the latest developments that included a march last night. during the march they squared off police to protest police use of force by officers. however, a group broke away and begin spray painting anti-slogans on buildings, breaking some parking meters and shattering the front window of a police recruiting station. tomas ramon begins. >>> a crowd that numbered close to one thousand people gathered at the plaza. before the march, they helped an open mic what was called a speak out on bay area police brutality. >> tonight there are all kinds of people talking about, for years in this city and dealing with the brutality that comes from the police. >> a couple dozen people shared their experiences and spoke out against tuesday's police action that left protestor scott olson and seven police officers injured. shawn is a local plum they're listened to tonight's speeches diploma t

carolyn tyler has more. >> it's summertime and rvs are lined up along the street rite by ocean beach. they are people like this man. >> i have been living in this city all my life and how i live is none of your business. >> his group has had enough of this encampment. sometimes as many as 20 rvs park on a two block stretch. >> but we have a fair number that do have issues and we have a lot of public drinking, intoxication, drug use and sales and used needles outside. >> this is where our children walk and they dump our sewage into our sewage system and some urinate in the park and defecate, as well. >> police say the situation has existed for years. >> why has it been allowed to go on for decades? >> i think the limitations that we have on our enforcement. >> there is a city law against sleeping in vehicles but officers have to see a violater to cite him. >> they indicate it's illegal to park in one spot longer than 72 hours but those that are savvy can figure it out. >> to comply they can move a block away and wait until they receive another notice. they say it's a game of cat and mo

carolyn tyler has the story. >>reporter: 40,000 salmon used to swim in these pens. 17-year-old greg says they were his babies. he and his classmates at this high school in petaluma were responsible for every stage of their lives. >> yes. we took care of them. we spawned them from mother and father fish and raised them from before they were even fis fish. >>reporter: it was collaborative effort with the foundation and tiburon salmon institute. whose motto is em powering today's youth to save tomorrow's salmon. the students raise the fish for several month ins a hatchery at school. and then transferred them to prepare for a release into the bay. some time between yesterday morning feeding and today someone deliberately cut the ties that held the fish in the net. >> sad state where you can't raise fish to give back to the wild and without somebody vandalizing the project. >>reporter: fish were going to be released this month. but not this way. every year the students have a ceremony to say goodbye to their babies. n

i'm carolyn tyler. >> san leandro are investigating a shooting at alvarado street and alaiding avenue around 1:30 this morning that left three dead. it was the scene of party that had been advertised on facebook according to a police spokesman. the report of shots fired came in as the pear was letting out. investigators have now set up a special anonymous tip loin that people can call to provide any information about what happened. the number is 510-577-3278. you do not have to identify yourself. >>> a massive policeman hunt has ended in mendocino county and law enforcement officials and local residents are expressing relief. aaron bassler was armed and dangerous and wanted for the killing of two local officials in august. yesterday they tracked him down in the mendocino county redwoods 6 miles east of fort bragg. he was shot to death by members of a s.w.a.t. team. we have details and reaction from fort bragg. >> reporter: 35-year-old aaron bassler is dead. mendocino county sheriff, thomas allman, is visibly relieved. >> this ends a 36-day really and truly terrorizing situation for me

i'm carolyn tyler. interstate 580 is open again in san leandro after being closed for ten hours during a police investigation. officers have arrested a para transit driver on a pair of felony hit-and-run and murder. police are investigating whether 31-year-old eddie hall of oakland deliberately ran down a motorcyclist with his para transit van during a freeway confrontation. it happened on 580 in san leandro. we have more from the scene. >> the twisted metal jammed under the front of this para transit bus used to be a motorcycle. police say this marks the end of what used to be a crime scene. >> the para transit bus involved actually dragged the motorcycle for about a mile and came to rest after the 150th avenue on-ramp. >> the motorcyclist died in this collision, and because of initial reports by witnesses police are handling this as a homicide. >> i don't know if there was any communication between the two. that's unknown at this point. and suddenly the van turned and hit the motorcycle. >> investigat
