carolyn tyler joins us along the powell street cable car. >> reporter: you know these cable cars move pretty slowly, about 10 miles an hour. some motorists try to pass them. if you're caught, that's a $238 fine, and it also threatens the safety of the passengers and operators. for the past 15 years, derek johnson has been an operator on san francisco's iconic cable cars. >> most rewarding job. >> it can also be dangerous since the cable cars stop in the middle of the street. in april, 53-year-old santiago montoya suffered a broken leg and fractured rib when hit by a car while helping passengers get off his cable car. another operator is fighting for his life after being struck by a motorcycle in june. >> these two incidents this year on the cable car have redoubled our resolve to make sure that not just the whole system but the cable cars in particular that our praltoperators can be . they want motorists to know it's against the law. horses were the main obstacle. now the streets of san francisco are anything but idyllic. >> don't pass the cable car! >> if you do pass while they're le

live in west oakland, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> carolyn, thanks very much. and now to the arrest of a teenager police say assault add girl and robbed as many as ten homes. locations of those reported robberies, most of them happened in the city's west end. that's where abc 7 news report er katie joins us. >> reporter: there were surveillance cameras at one of the locations where a prowler broke in. it's that surveillance footage shown on our air and thecanvassd that helped lead to the arrest. all the victims were women and there were no stolen items taken from the moment, so it was just targeted to women and no thefts occurred to the burglary/break-ins. they're not releasing his name because he's a minor. he turned himself in possibly because of the mounting pressure of his picture being out there. sexual assault of a minor and two counts of burglary. that may be just the beginning. they're working to connect him with a string of seven burglaries in the city's west end. police say the teen fled the home before physically contacting any of the female resident

carolyn tyler joins us where the crime took place. carolyn?cisco police are not confirming this but air b&b is telling us they believe that woman is in custody and they say what happened to one of their hosts here in the outer sunset is the exception to the rule. the host that locked her valuables in a closet and office but on home surveillance video you see someone prowling around after breaking into the room. police say 27-year-old jana dominguez, who lives in richmond rented the san francisco apartment on air b&b and during her stay while the owner was out of town stole more than $35,000 worth of valuables. >> it's your home. it's your sanctuary so you feel violated. you feel your trust has been broken. >> reporter: police say dominguez stole diamond, sapphire ruby jewelry foreign currency, a telescope and a tv and walked around the business downstairs. they say, quote, our safety team have been in close contact with the host to provide her with our full support. it's estimated there are more than 5,000 hosts in san francisco. peter quan is
