let's go to the scene with jason carroll. jason, you've been on the ground, literally racing there overnight as this has happened. what can you tell us? >> reporter: i just got off the phone with indianapolis metro pd just trying to get more information about the suspect, trying to push them in terms of any description, whether or not the suspect was a former employee, any sort of information, poppy, and they say it's just too early at this point for them to give us any more information about that. they did go into some more details describing what happened when the suspect got to this facility. he apparently started shooting the minute he got to this parking lot. started shooting in the parking lot. got inside, apparently didn't get very far inside and kept shooting as well. the calls actually came in to indianapolis metropolitan police department at about 11:00. once officers got here to the scene, they said that they were met with what they called an active shooter situation. they said that the suspect in this particular c

cnn's jason carroll live for us in elizabeth city, north carolina, tonight. jason, good evening to you. there's a curfew in effect. the public has still not seen the body cam footage of the fatal shooting. but cnn has obtained this new video tonight of some of the final moments before andrew brown was killed. what does it show, jason? >> reporter: that's correct, don. it's surveillance video. the surveillance video shows the sheriff's deputies just as they're arriving at brown's home moments before the shooting took place. an attorney for brown's family basically saying that they've been able to pull together certain aspects of what happened on this surveillance tape and they say just moments after that pickup truck arrived at brown's house, they estimate that about four seconds later they started shooting. and basically what they've had to do, don, is taken things like surveillance tape, 911 tapes. they got an opportunity, as you know, to look at about 20 seconds of body cam footage. this is what they've been able to do to pull together what's happened. that

cnn's jason carroll is in columbus for us, tonight. jason, you spoke with ma'khia bryant's mother today, paula bryant, what did she say? >> well, anderson, as you can imagine, it was very painful. very emotional interview. bryant's mother made it very clear, to us, that the reason why she sat down with us is because she doesn't want the narrative, going forward, to be about the altercation or about the officer who fired the fatal shots. in fact, she made it clear that she did not want to focus on that. what she does want to focus on, at this point, is the memory of her daughter. >> she was taken from me. she was taken from me. >> what would you like people to know about your daughter? >> i want the world to know that ma'khia was beautiful. she was humble. she loved to look after people. she loved her brothers and sisters. she wanted everybody to get along. she was a christian. she loved the lord. i'm just hurting. and i wish ma'khia was still here with me, my baby. i -- i wish she was still here. i wish i could hug and kiss her. again.

cnn's jason carroll joins us from indianapolis.fic attack thursday struck deep in the sikh community there. what more can you tell us? >> reporter: very deep, and in fact, we're here at the park where we're expecting that vigil is going to be taking place, pamela, just about an hour from now. but again, of the eight victims, four were from the sikh community and in fact, many of the people from the sikh community worked at that fedex facility, and so you can imagine why so many people in that community are feeling especially troubled at this point, and in fact, a letter on behalf of that community sent to president biden expressing their deep felt hurt but again, there were eight victims, four from the sikh community, some of the other victims, the oldest, 74 years old, two of the youngest victims, just 19 years old. and a little earlier today, pamela, i spoke to a chaplain who's been interacting with the family members, and i spoke to her and asked her how she's able to provide comfort, what sort of challenges she faces and trying

. >> jason carroll joins us by phone from indianapolis, he is on his way there to that fedex facilitya lot of folks waking up with this tragic news. we can tell you that a number of fedex employees at this point, still, christine, trying to be reunited with their family members. just to recap what happened here, the initial calls came in just about 11:00 last night, indiana metro police quickly, you know, arrived at the fedex facility where they said it was an active shooting scene. one employee says he was on a break when he heard gunshots but at first he wasn't sure what he had heard. he soon realized that they were shots and that he had to act very, very quickly. >> he was firing at -- in the open and i immediately ducked down and got scared and my friend's mother, she came in and told us to get inside the car and what we've been doing is currently just telling everyone who is our co-workers to not go to work today and to know that there was an incident that just happened. >> and at the same time when we were telling them that there was a shootout they basically looked at us and ch
