i was over on the carter center side so i was at the jimmy carter library . but i'm glad i got to know stanley during those early years . we had a mutual friend. and then my phd days, phil chase and virginia so we have lots of fun right after that. and you gave a lot of help to a little bit later . she was carter's assistant when i wanted to get an interview with carter, of course you have to go to the backup channels and you've got all secret service clearance but steve is the one who did a lot of the legwork in and made the interview possible. but you cannot tell them 1994. i'll just mention briefly our library, i learned how presidential libraries work while i was here. when i went to the other presidential library was fairly easy . the other was s specifically about jimmy carter i didn't have to spenda lot of years there . the best one was the fourth library in michigan. because most of the records were of the last election and so those folks were very good and all of that. the kennedy library, they weren't very friendly. and in fact the carter's and then

well, ijust got back earlier this morning, and the carter center had a team of about 60 people, and ihe other organisations — the international observers from the southern african region, the african union and the eu — all of our assessments aligned in that this is the context of a very unlevel playing field with a lot of political challenges that made it really difficult to have an open and credible and competitive election. so, i think the prospects for calling this a successful election are thin. what specifically made to the playing field unlevel in terms of what you saw? so, i was in zimbabwe for the last election in 2018 and the context and the environment was just dramatically different. you could both see itjust in your interactions with everyday people, but also, a couple of very specific things — the delimitation of election boundaries were skewed. the voter registration process was very opaque. the political parties never really received a copy of the voter registration in a way that they could check it, you know, before the election at all. there was changes in the number

and now we had a mental health symposium here at the carter center.i have a great mental health program here. last week and and one of the people who worked with me in the white house, the program the subject was the affordable care act. and he did a comparison of what we did in 1980 with what we what the affordable care act. it almost identical. we just passed parity and it was announced here the final regulations. i had parity in the 1980 system of mental health systems that i mean, this is really things don't move very fast in the mental health for you. and i'm so thrilled now that we have paired and we have the affordable care act covers parity and we also had integration in the 1980 legislation that combining mental health and substance use, behavioral health and you and betty ford worked on that together. that's right. and after we left the white hoe d, and i would go to washington, she would get to republicans and democnd we we made some progress. your husbands were known as become best friends are very good friends. did you and betty ford have
