for more on what today's report means to investors, let's go live to carter evans in new york city at the nasdaq. good morning, carter. >> hi, tori. yes, you know the focus on the job's report faded just a bit. i think the european debt fears are creeping back into the market right now. but let's talk about that job's report for just a second because it was much better than expected. now, 103,000 jobs, they were added to this economy in the month of september. and now, 103,000, that's a lot more than expected, analysts were thinking that it would be somewhere around 6,000. that's relatively good news. it gets better. the august and the july numbers were also revived upwards, adding 0 out there -- adding about 0 out there. it looks like the numbers went up even higher as well. so now it looks like the economic picture, at least for the jobs who might not be quite as bad as, you know, that some have thought. however, i do want to put it into context for you, that 103 jobs is a very weak number compared to a healthy economy for you. now, we need to be adding 135,000 jobs for them every s

for more on that, we go to carter evans at the nasdaq in new york city. carter we were expecting find of a bit of some profit-taking going on this morning. but how are things going so far? >> reporter: well well, you know things are -- well, you know, things are coming back around. you can see the dow right off the opening bell, it down -- it went down a little bit. now we're moving back into positive territory. the dow is up 11 points. nasdaq and s&p 500 just barely in negative territory. we got this personal spending and personal income report today. in september, on average, our personal spending was up 6/10ths of 1%. you know, this is good because consumer spending represents about two-thirds of the economic activity in the country. so economically speaking, it's good we're spending more money and it's one reason we got the good report that we got yesterday. this report shows our economy is glowing again in this nation at a pace of 2.5% in the third quarter. now, 2.5% is still subpar for a normal economy. but i gotta tell you it's so much better than t
