in a way, casey, i think it's important.any time we have a special counsel who's been employed to look into a significant matter of national interest, that person is required to submit a report to the attorney general. and attorney generals have almost always turned those reports over to the public. i think following that tradition, this is certainly a both cases are matters of extreme public interest. and i think the report about the d.c. case should be turned over without any sort of delay, which would be immediately after midnight tonight. i think that's what we can expect. i understand the trump team is is saying that there's not much new here. and it is true that we've seen probably a lot. you know, there's been an indictment in this case. there's been a superseding indictment in this case, it's been very extensive motion filings with all kinds of pieces of evidence and intended exhibits at trial have been exposed during this process. so there's a lot we've seen already. but even the trump team said in their own filing

casey. >> all right. fair enough. still, i think worth remarking on the historic nature of what's set to play out today, even though it may feel anticlimactic. as you note. joey, let me ask you about something else that we learned yesterday. a federal appeals court ruled that jack smith's final interference report can be released. this is, of course, the election interference that the final set of findings that the last word that we're likely to hear from him on this. what's next? do you expect a version of that report to be released to the public? >> so i do, right. although we know that there certainly could be more appeals as it relates to that department of justice guidance. casey. provide for a report to be released to the public concerning what jack smith, the special counsel, would have found. the nature of those findings, the evidence involved, what it means to the public, what it meant to the rule of law. and so, yes, i mean, that's the standard course, and it should be. now, there

casey. >> yeah, that is an incredibly concerning detail there. derek. thanks very much for that report. for more on how firefighters efforts to contain the blazes are going. let's bring in mike lopez. he is a retired cal fire battalion chief. mike, good morning to you. i'm sure you have many, many friends who are out there on the front lines. what have you heard from crews about the challenges they're dealing with right now? and do they have what they need to keep going? >> the challenges right now have been, you know, is the wind. obviously, if the wind slows down, the men and women of the fire service can get in there and put lines in place and start doing some active firefighting and trying to corral this. so that's our biggest hurdle is really is just trying is to get the firefighters around the working edges of the fire. while the wind has slowed down to minimal before it kicks back up in the afternoon. >> mike, can you talk to us a little bit about some of the things that unfolded over the initial kind of 24 hours? we've heard reports, for example

casey, do you have some questions for carrie? so questions that i will read out.so the first one, this guy, what unique questions did you ask president carter? well, i asked him about the october surprise and he very diplomatically. deferred, saying that he had no opinion about it. but he so he was clearly aware of the allegations and curious about what i would find. i also asked him, as i explained about curveball and his influence and thinking about various issues and i asked him about the helicopter rescue mission. and, you know, he was he was helpful. but i have to say, he the best thing he did to help his biographer to keep a very detailed old white house diary throughout his presidency and, of course, as you know, he published about 20% of it. and it's a fabulous diary. it's substantive. it's a place where you can see him venting about various issues and personalities and problems. he's facing on a daily basis. and i asked him, you know, repeatedly if he could open up the 80% that was still closed. but he turned me down and he's other historians down. but so

casey. >> yeah. maribel. we're also learning at this hour that officials have declared the iconic rose bowl, the stadium where they play the rose bowl as an evacuation shelter for people who are leaving. what can you tell us about how this threat is playing out through the night there in los angeles? because our understanding is some of these winds, the peak time for danger may be between 10 a.m. local time and 5 a.m. or so. what? what should residents there be expecting be on the lookout for in these coming hours? >> yeah, we're definitely not in the clear. the worst is definitely not yet here. and of course we will get a better understanding once the sun comes up. but as you mentioned, those winds are expected to continue gusting at high speeds through the early morning. we know that right now the governor is asking people to please heed those evacuation orders. several shelters are open now for animals and also for the people that need somewhere to go. there's also the school, schools, at least five school
