cassidy brettler witnessed the terror firsthand. this is what she told cnn. >> i don't know. i mean, honestly, i got home last night about 11:00 and started to break down because i had been holding it in all day. i had been trying to remain composed. on social media and video just portray what was going on and tell my story. but by the time i was trying to fall asleep, it was hitting me, this is real and waking up this morning realizing it isn't a nightmare, it actually happened, and what will be the case today. >> reporter: indeed it did actually happen. there were thousands of people still running the race when those bombs went off. and for the first time, we're seeing what the blast looked like from it a runner's perspective. runners reaching the finish line, of course one of the things you do these days is take video of yourself crossing the finish line. this time taking video of the bombs, smoke rising into the air. you can see they started running in the opposite direction of the blast, probably a smart thing to do. we just heard from investigators a little over an hour

. >> my name is shaun cassidy, first vice president of policy association. completely agree our president that we do need a comprehensive cohesive national aviation policy, though we talk about these if it turns and it almost seems like we have this relative condition that we can't figure how to get from point a to point b. are there some constructive steps we can move forward to make some incremental steps in achieving the goal of the national policy? >> excellent question. in my view in nick may disagree, this is a multiyear process and part of it is education. these are people who are very interested in airlines and aviation. many people don't. very few people understand the power of airlines to gross domestic product. 5% probably shocks a lot of people. we compete on a global scale, that we do things as a nation that are curious. for example, will trade open skies with dubai. basically emirates can fly wherever in the united states and we have returned can fly in dubai. heck of a trade. cassidy for his comments because it gets to the point.y wife and i upon learning of this diagnosis of embarked on educating ourselves in every axisf ental health treatment including getting the system, familiarizing ourselves with all of the things that are in our way and then we took it upon ourselves to go out and educate others. we have done that by teaching class is, by serving on boards, we've done that by speaking engagements, we've done it by raising money and also by bringing people into our home and comforting them and holding them to cope. what i'm going to tell you is that we are actually ashamed of ourselves as to what we did not know before our son became mentally ill. and i would dare say that if the members of the committee were to spend a couple of days in the psychosis, this would fly. he would change things tomorrow. and so what needs to happen is the need to be recognized there is a gaping hole and i want to clarify something there's a difference with lack of insight and a psychotic episode. they are two entirely differ
