let's begin with catherine herridge. what do you know about this irannan? >> as u.s. destroyers and surveillance aircraft scour the region we're told the flight manifest for the flight has been run against what is known as the tide database, the broad babes babes compiled by the u.s. government which includes known and suspected terrorists and there have been no red flags. investigators had the images of they passengers who used the stolen passports from the security checkpoint video cameras and think they have a positive i.d. on one of the men. there's now outreach to form intelligence agencies to verify the name. one of the men appears to be from west africa, neither described as being of asia descent. and there is a claim of responsibility identified and is being checked out but a u.s. official said it was not from a known terrorist group and not a lot of stock is put into that claim. >> more than a dozen agencies involved in one way or another with investigating this thing but not the fbi. why is that? >> we're told the fbi has a team on standby but has not gone t

catherine herridge is live in washington. where are we? >> sources telling fox news that the flight sent, quote, periodic pushes of data after the transponder went dark and these signals came in a number of time in attempts to link up with satellites. this is described to fox news as signals data that would not provide a specific location for the missing jet. to that end fox news told us the data is being analyzed along with military radar tracking that shows an unidentified flight consistent with 370 making the turn, suggesting a deliberate act. a short time ago the state department reported the u.s. is engaged. >> pretty unprecedented situation, that a plane is missing this along. they're looking at a number of explanations. they're operating in a very difficult situation. they want to find out what happened to this plane. >> fox news told us the u.s. is rielle location -- re-allocation of assets tracks with this but we don't knoll the significant of the data. >> if as describe, virtually unprecedented in aviation history. are the malays

catherine herridge on the mysteriy. does this investigation seem to be heading? >> investigators are sharpening their focus on the transresponder that went silent an hour into the flight, and reports from the military the jet may have turned around and was flying low for some distance. the cia director saying nothing is being ruled out. >> this issue of the transponder, a number of very curious anomalies about all of this, and still a mystery at this point. did it turn around? were the individual with the stolen passports involved? what about the transpond center why did it just disappear? there are a lot of unknowns at this point, and so which -- which leads to rampant speculation about the reasons and causes, but i think at this point we have to be patient and wait. >> meanwhile, interpol released images of the a iranian tuesday traveled to malaysia on the passports and then switched to stolen documents before boarding the flight together. >> we know that once the two individuals arrived and n kuala lumpur, on the 28th of february, they boarded flight 370. usin

chief intelligence correspondent catherine herridge is live here with the latest. >> thank you, bret. this is a very fluid situation. the information we have is that the single report was published on a chinese government technology website, showing 6áred by ects all s satellite. the approximate location seems to dove tail with the last known contact between the crew and air traffic controllers. it's clear from my conversation this evening but some but not all of the relevant u.s. agencies with an investigative stake in the missing jet are aware of the images and working to independently verify the reporting. it's also seen that they're learning about the wreckage at the same time as reporters. this striking development comes as u.s. investigators become more deeply involved. the ntsb and faa are now providing technical assistance to decode the civilian and military data on the flight's last known location. >> the malaysians know they have the radar tracks. i don't think they know exactly what they have. by having faa and ntsb experts coming in, they can get a better idea of what they

catherine herridge joins us. >> thank you, greta.here are reports in the malaysian media that there were a number of remote airstrips on that flight similarity that was held by that 53-year-old pilot on flight 370. and that these strips were located in she lanka the mull disease and the navy base. there was no confirmation of this reporting but today at the white house briefing, jay carney said that there was absolutely no way that this plane could be on u.s. territory without the united states being forth right about that. >> what about the other like locations? did he say anything about those. >> there was no mention of the other locations. >> is there anything more on that similarity? did it say -- i assume that these airstrips are long enough to take a 777? >> well, the problem for u.s. investigators is they are not necessarily getting access to all of the information that's being held in my opinion on a close hold by the malaysian authorities. independent assessment. >> how can would he be so uninformed? bad relationship with ma
