"the new york times" reported that the u.s. infiltrated the north korean systems as early as 2010. when clapper was in north korea last fall to free the two american hostages kenneth bae and matt miller, he had dinner with his north korean counterpart. but a spokesman said the two men did not discuss cyber. in a speech earlier this month at fordham university clapper confirmed the commander of north korea's reconnaissance bureau oversaw the sony attack just two weeks after that dinner. u.s. investigators believe north korea stole the credentials of a systems administrator at sony and spent two months beginning in september moving freely within the network and laying the foundation for the attack that not only stole data but physically destroyed the sony system.
