an officer shot and killed a man on varnum street, a half-mile from catholic university. john gonzalez has the latest. john: we have been talking to isidents in northeast d.c., half-mile from catholic university and they said they heard a lot of yelling last night and then the shots, 4, 5, 6 shots or more here on varnum street, the 100 block. this police involved shooting at 10:30 last night. police have confirmed that the man shot and killed was armed with a bb gun. at the time, police got the call saying there was a man armed with a gun and when they arrived , the officers attempted several times to get weapon. .e refused instead, he aimed that toward the officers and that is when two officers opened fire. you lived next to this man, what did you hear? >> drop the gun, drop the gun and other screaming from the cops. six shots a couple seconds later and that was really scary because it was incredibly loud. john: how did you react? >> i grabbed my roommate and we ran into the kitchen. here for man lived five or seven years, in his 60's, not sure why he was out here with a

metro's red line trains are back running again and serving the brooklyn catholic university metro stop. what happened was a break in a four-inch gas line near the station prompted metro to stop service there for a shorttime this afternoon. this evening however, we checked and the trains are back on time for the red line. michelle: pepco recently bought out by exelon is requesting a rate hike for the d.c. customers.
