and with milwaukee mayor cavalier johnson about his role in bringing the convention to his city.e'll also talk to local businesses about their preparations for the big week. bureau first, a conversation with r.n.c. chair michael whatley about his group's preparation for the convention. . >> we are excited about being in milwaukee. there was a lot that goes into making the decision on where to go for the convention. the fact that it is a battleground state, wisconsin is one of the most important battleground states, but more importantly for us is just milwaukee is a great town. they are excited to be hosting us. they have the facilities to put the convention together. the fiserv arena is a fantastic venue, and we were able to get all of their hotel rooms in wisconsin, over 15,000 we had to contract for. when you talk about the logistics of bringing 50,000 people into an arena overnight for four consecutive nights, it is a challenge, and you have got to have a host city that can work together, that are very committed to making sure we do this, and we have had fantastic partnership

joining us now is mayor of milwaukee, wisconsin, cavalier johnson. two days ago. didn't know i was going to be talking to you again tonight. it's great to see you. as you know, i was among the 50,000 people who enjoyed a safe and secure republican convention. there is a huge law enforcement presence. but what else do you attribute to its success? >> nice to see you again, jonathan. and yes, we did have a safe and successful republican national convention here in milwaukee and look, there were a lot of people, a lot of people from the secret service to the milwaukee police department, led by jeffrey norman, milwaukee fire department led by aaron lipsky, that contributed to making sure we had a safe convention for every single person who came here, the 50,000 or so individuals that came to milwaukee. but it wasn't just them. we had a number of volunteers on the ground from milwaukee that were assistant to the people that were here and citizens, just regular citizens in our city who interacted with the folks who were attending the rnc and were not just

to engage the man, apparently never dropped those knives, as you can watch him that video so cavalier johnson is the mayor of a walk. how you doing, sir obviously, a tough video to watch, but as you understand it, what do you think played out there on that video? >> as you were? for mentioning the officers from columbus, they were doing a briefing before the day activities here. and while doing that briefing, so not necessarily patrolling, just kept watching up with each other. what happened was they one of the officers noticed that an individual had not just one life, or two knives, and then proceeded to yell out to them. the vigil to drop the knobs, dropped the knives because he was confronting another person on the street officers then rushed towards the individual, continuing to say, drop the knife, drop the knife don't engage. you essentially, he disobeyed the officer's commands and then proceeded to launch at the individual with two knives there has been some criticism because they milwaukee police officers, but as you were explaining, they were doing a routine sort of gathering and the
