it's "cbs news mornings." >>> mon stir milton. the hurricane is barreling toward the gulf coast now as a powerful category 4 storm, an area still reeling from helene's deadly wrath 12 days agent. >>> the warnings, the evacuations, and the latest on the storm's track. >>> good morning. i'm michael jogeorge. hurricane milton could be the worst to hit the florida gulf coast in more than a century. the winds have been downgraded to a category 4 with winds a 1940 miles an hour. milton is expected to make landfall late tomorrow night or early thursday morning. evacuation orders have been issued, and it appears that residents are heeding the call to leave with roads already jammed. the tampa bay area still recovering from helene is now scrambling to clean up the debris left behind before the storm hits. cbs's cristian benavides joins us from st. pete beach with more on the preparations. good morning. >> reporter: michael, good morning. county officials say they're working around the clock to do so, but time is running out. strong winds a
