we are a union electrical contractor based out of cedar rapids. we handle residential, large, small, commercial, and industrial applications. last march, it seemed like overnight, we went from having a good amount of work to 100 places that need places to go and need paychecks. it was kind of unnerving and i will say that the benefit of getting a ppp loan and allowing us to get our entire workforce, not only retain it, but keep them gainfully employed. not have them worrying about how they will pay their mortgage, car payments, anything along those lines. it was gratifying and i was appreciative as a business leader to do that. when we went from covid then come august, it was at the flip of a switch. it was a lot of work to be done to all hands on deck. one of the largest benefits of the ppp program was allowing us to retain our workforce. it is tough to qualify. i can tell you it was a benefit to not have to go out and search for people and rehire employees because everybody needed help. there was more work than anyone in town could handle. it wa

it goes back to 2008 when cedar rapids had devastating floods. i was on the ground as a national guardsmen at that time. we had been mobilized because of the floods in eastern iowa. i remember the horrible sights and sounds of all the flooding and the people that lost their homes, their businesses, their livelihoods literally down the river. and for 10 years, folks have been trying to get that funding for that flood mitigation project and we were finally able to make inroads in the trump administration with some of the wonderful people they put in place in the army corps of engineers. it's short up our community, -- it shard up a -- it's your top -- it shored up the second-largest city in iowa. during that flood, there were elements of sadness and humor. i was with an aviation support battalion, so we had access to air assets and could fly over the damage from the air. and there was a little island, a rise of land that had been swallowed up by the river and the flooding. some very creative person had gone out on a raft or boat and in sandbags had
