in order to raise the debt ceiling, house speaker john boehner's plan calls for two votes. first a vote on $1.2 trillion in cuts that would raise the debt ceiling through early next year. and then a second vote on $1.8

ceiling for 2012 to 13. it must last until 2013. house peeker john boehner aids said he's coming here with the demand that spending be cut more than the debt ceiling is raised. that is his only bottom line. it would take in the range of 2.4 trillion to extend the debt sealing through 2013 and the democrats and republicans were no where near that when boehner walked out of the talks for the second time. boehner had wanted to raise the debt ceiling to next spring and the president said the fight is not going to get easier with the 2012 campaign in full swing. republicans don't want the fight to get easier. boehner's spokesman said it is unfortunate for the debt ceiling to be increased because the time table is not ideal for a presidential campaign. >> are they so far apart and especially after the president's tone and remarks last night, that they are angry at each other? >> well, both sides would say they are not. both the president and speaker boehner said the talks have been civil, but there seem to be a little emotion in both of them especially the preside

boehner's plan to raise the debt ceiling. joining me from washington is congressman phil gingrey of georgia. thanks for joining us, congressman. >> thank you. >> johnell his plan to conservatives. it has been revised back to the drawing board. more cuts and the congressional budget office now says it cuts $917 billion of spending over ten years. again, no tax increases. are you onboard? >> i'm not onboard. it is the next best thing. the best thing is cap, cut and balance. that gives the president what he asked for. the $2.4 trillion increase in the debt ceiling to take him as he asked for through the next election. and that sounds awfully political to me. but in any regard talk about balance for us to be willing to allow him to do that and in exchange we ask the cut, cap and balance. the most important aspect of that to me is the balanced budget amendment. we need that desperately. we have been, you know, many congresses, republicans, democrats, it does not matter. we just keep spending. the only way we can constrain ourselves is by the balg answered budget amendment 49 out of 50 states has. >> congressman gingrey, there are many that are upset by

big developments expected on the debt ceiling debate. john boehner to unveil a new deal by 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. mike viqueira has more. good sunday morning, mike. >> reporter: well, good morning to you. crunch time in washington after talks in the white house blew up between republicans and president friday night. congressional leaders and staff have been scrambling to find a way out of the mounting crisis and of course, there are nine days to go before the first possible default in u.s. financial history and government history. leaders hope to announce at least later today the framework for an agreement. and they're doing that in part to soothe worldwide market jitters that many of the markets open late today eastern time around the world for monday openings and there's a great deal of concern an adverse effect. john boehner has a proposal on the table. leaders huddled last night to look at it. call for $1 trillion in cuts but dealing with major questions, the most volatile questions that we've seen, including cuts and changes to social securit

to temporarily increase the debt ceiling presented by john boehner will also face the threat of default in six months. in other words, it does not solve the problem. first of all, a six month extension of the debt ceiling might not be enough to avoid a credit downgrade and higher interest rates that americans would have to pay as a result. we all know what we need to do to reduce our deficits what with the economy at risk by kicking the can further down the road. there is even a greater danger to this approach. based on what we've seen for these past few weeks we know what to expect six months from now. the house of representatives will once again refused to default on was the rest of us looks out there cuts-only approach. again that they will pr refuse t ask the wealthiest americans to give up their tax cuts and will demand harsh cuts like medicare. once again, the economy will be held captive unless they get their way. this is no way to run the greatest country on our earth is a dangerous game is that we have never played before. we cannot afford to play it now. not when jobs and live
