central california and southern california really missing out on the rain northern california has seen the last couple of months. right now we have kind of a north-south divide of our own weather. you can see some rain around san francisco and the north bay. what's left of that light rain should move north of san francisco. mainly light to moderate rain for the north bay for the rest of the day. look at san jose, upper 60s, maybe even close to 70 in reach today. low 60s around san francisco. still dodging some raindrops as you move further north. mid-60s around the tri-valley. so the next three days, main event number one comes in tomorrow morning for the north bay. watch how that rain line hangs up over san francisco and weakens into san jose. heaviest rain for the end of the week will come friday morning. bay areawide a lot of wind and rain with this system that should clear out friday evening. in the weekend even more rain is in the forecast. so the next three days looks very soggy, especially thursday into friday. the sierra will see snow levels close to 5,000 feet. san francisco a

on the brighter side excellent use for the reservoirs because in central california is where they are and that is where they catch the rainfall for the dry season which is fast approaching. so etc. good they got some rainfall from it. in the deep south, we had the stuck pattern. last week we had that sunshine here in florida. then they got pummeled with rainfall. that is a much improved situation there. much drier weather coming in for them heading into the next few days. some moisture for us still left over in the form of showers, in fact it will continue with the pockets of heavy rainfall here -- not heavy rainfall but still coming into the south and west and heading to pinellas, you've seen some showers already, that will continue, will be the trend for later this morning. not much left though by the time we get to the midday hour and afternoon. we'll be in much better shape as far as the rainfall. futurecast shows that. with again, pockets of light to moderate showers this morning. then mostly cloudy for the rest of the day. we'll have a few breaks of sunshine and very muggy. you'

the area that i want california to rain at is central california because that is where the reservoirs are. not so much across the south though the rain coming in is going to impact a good chunk of the state. you can see on satellite and radar pretty significant rain coming in. by the way this very system we're seeing in california will eventually migrate, change a little but eventually get to our area by next weekend. the reason it's going to take an entire week to get here, we have this big area of high pressure that is going to be dominating our weather pattern and act as a block for that system. it will continue to move east and by the time it gets to new orleans that is where the brakes are going to get hit here. it's going to stop there and not allowed to move further east because of this high. just very potent high pressure for this time of year. so that is going to keep us sunny, it's going to keep us dry and it's going to moderate our temperatures with the wind off the water and the southerly wind component. there you see still by weather system to the west. we're talking abou

look at this train car that just fell right over in the water, still a very active scene in central california this morning after this passenger train derailed. it was a fallen tree that caused all this to happen. you saw the first car of the train plunge in the water overnight. passengers were taken by bus out of the area. train service in the area cancelled today. in all, nine people were injured, originally it was 14, now nine people injured but four of them with very serious injuries. we heard from one passenger a short time ago in the second car, the one behind the car that >> it was jolty, it was a fairly wild ride. we bumped, it was derailed. we didn't come off completely off the tracks but it was a very, very jarring ride for a little bit we weren't sure what was happening because it was dark, we couldn't see what was going on. >> christine: many of the other people who were on that train say it is absolutely a miracle that no one was killed in this train derailment. i'll keep an eye on it. the investigation is continuing and i'm just seeing new video coming in of those passengers bein

broader idea of what happened we are going to look at the three station index for northern and central california for the snow. it's all telling pretty much the same story. it is way ahead of where it was a year ago when governor brown stood out there with dirt on the ground during the snow survey. today, we're close to average in the north, the central sierra nine-tenths of normal and in the south south not quite as good but mostly worried about the 97% in the north. we are down 3% in a week [ indiscernible ] no snow or rain but we're way up over last year. back in the bay area, as we look from the dublin cam, the numbers are mostly in the 60s with the sole exception being san francisco right now at 57 degrees. san jose 63. hi-def doppler not a thing. not yet. next system that's coming into the bay area on monday down south they picked up .10" of rain at bob hope airport in burbank but for us mostly sunny skies. that ridge is building way up to the north as low pressure spins over the california, arizona, nevada border. weird. that's what's triggering the showers down south. up here, more of the
