blankets we have a cold snap that will bring if a possibility of precipitation for parts of the central coast but it passes out and we are going to be experiencing and wind and a temperature drop. more on that in the seven-day forecast but we do have a couple of problems in the traffic department. not quite sure if this due to fog but if you are headed along the altamont pass westbound 580 at grant line, we have a stall there and that is slowing things down as you make the push in the westbound direction. when you reach vasco you have top speeds to the dublin interchange. drive time traffic shows 80 westbound from albany to the maze is four minutes. 880 southbound from fremont to san jose is 15 minutes. 280 northbound from 101 to cupertino is 10 minutes. outside it is going to be the san mateo bridge making the push in the westbound direction from hayward to foster city and only taking you 12 minutes. >> happening today, the oakland teen burned by another teen on a public bus is running to school for the first time since the attack. our reporter is at sasha fleischman's school in berkeley. >>

. >> firefighters in the central coast are continuing to battle flames near big sur and crews admit december wildfire is a rare appearance. katie marzullo is monitor this from the newsroom. >> the sheriff says big sur is usually the wet of the areas but this is one of the driest years if history so in that respect the fire is not a surprise although it is winter. the fight for fire break out late sunday near highway one and last night, with more than 600 firefighters on the job they have zero percent containment. fires burned 500 acres and destroyed 15 hopes including this one, the home of big sur's fire chief. she took that picture. 100 have had to evacuated and evacuations are in effect. >> i was up there touring the homes that have burned to the ground. therement spots everywhere. it is treacherous terrain. things are flaming up. the wind has been fairly low, knock on wood. >> firefighters looking to day break. roads closed in the area. highway one though, is open. at this point the cause of the fire is under investigation. in the newsroom for abc7 news. >> the family of an 8th grade girl

moderate air quality in the central coast and down through the santa clara valley. and all of this being ushered in by dry weather. 2013 will go down in history as the driest calendar year ever on record and records go back to 1849. kpix5 tells us in some spots, the shortage of rain is being measured not in inches, but in feet. >> skiers and boarders are -- in the sierra. no snow is a much more worry? concern for the state's water supply. snow melt -- the main source of water for the municipal district. the source of water, san francisco's sierra reservoir. it may be too soon to be worried, marin county depends on rain collected in lakes. about 52 inches a year normally. this year, the county is headed for a record low with 10.5 inches of rain. reservoirs are down to 58%. the board called for a voluntary cutback on water use and may consider rationing at its april meeting. the water district's reservoir is dramatically low, but that's deliberate. they put it in storage. the district has learned to save water often and early and that seems to be paying off. >> the wa

. >> we're seeing 70s here in the bay area. 80s in the central coast. highs in the mid 80s. not too bad, not too cold outside. and the view around the peninsula. hazy skies set up again tonight. this is the issue, high pressure, warm temperatures by day. kind of a gorgeous view here. not much wind at all. you get this mirror-like reflection across the bay. looking at the new span of the bay bridge, 53 degrees currently. this allowed some of our coastal community today to soar into the mid 70s around santa cruz and scotts valley today, 77 degrees. the arrow is still pointing offshore, temperatures tend to store or at least rise up. you'll see those numbers again tomorrow near 70 in the warmest places around the bay area. but the pattern here is one that's really showing no signs of breaking. this time of year, typically this high is certained off to the north of hawaii. this large ridge anchored here across the west coast. and underneath, a strong ridge of high pressure. you get the sinking motion in the atmosphere, warm air aloft, cool air at the surface which tends to trap

has destroyed a does homes and threatening hundreds more, forcing evacuation near california's central coast. it's an area just north of big sur state park. san francisco up to the north. this is santa cruz here, and this is the -- what's the forest again? los padres national forest. this is the spot where this fire is just raging. just on the foothills. some video from earlier today. crews say that fire spread overnight and charred at least 15 homes, including the home of the volunteer fire brigade chief there. other evacuees say they have no idea whether they're homes are even still standing. hundreds of firefighters and at least eight aircraft are battling the flames that now cover some 550-acres and they're working very hard to protect lives and structures. officials say bone-dry conditions and strong winds are fueling the thing and they expect more wind shifts to come in, which causes a lot of problems when you're trying to identifying this from -- fight this from the air. the fire is 5% contained and they're developing a smoke problem in the canyon. no reports of anybody hurt. >> the m
