this week i sat with him before a live audience at the cgi. we talked charity, taxes, and jobs. >> i think we have to target the areas where we know we can grow more jobs. we have to find ways to finance them and go where the money is. and we have to make sure we have people who can do those jobs. the areas that are most likely to produce big job growth are small business, because it's always the number one job generator, anufacturing, because there is lots of evidence we can bring back manufacturing after a long dry spell, and clean energy, which is related to manufacturing technology and a lot of other things. the first thing i think we shld do is to pass the package to give small business a bigger write-off if they actually expand their operation. so you spend the tax cut for more jobs, expansions, equipment. the second thing is i think we should pass this package of thing to keep us more competitive manufacturing here. we can't have any more stimulus and the deficit is big and all that and everybody is concerned about it, where is the mone

how does cgi address that domestic need and put it together with the global needs?ll, this year, we're going to try to spend more time on the domestic needs by getting and generating support for people who are working to reach those folks with both jobs and with training. let me just give you an example that's really chilling to me. and this is what i wish we would have more talk about in elections in america. where is the jobs going to come from, the money, financing going to come from? can people do them? for the first time in my lifetime, david, we are coming out of recession with posted job openings. that is, tomorrow, monday, you could get that job. these jobs have been offered. they're going up twice as fast as job hires. in this horrible economy. why? because of two things. first, over 10 million of our fellow citizens are living in homes that worth less than their mortgages. we still need more efforts to fix that. second, the biggest problem, is there's a skills mismatch. jobs that are being opened don't have qualified people applying for them. we need assis

because people hear so much about cgi. they know what's going on in new york.? what's the big idea? what does this initiative do that other initiatives don't? >> the big idea is that there's been an explosion of an old, old american idea. that there's always a limit to what the private sector can produce and the government can provide. and in that gap, citizens should take action and try to heal the breeches in our society, in america, and around the world. also, if you are not -- if you don't have to produce a profit for shareholders tomorrow and you're not bound by all the government rules, you can take some chances to try to do things faster, cheaper, better. and if you're really good, then the model can -- you can either partner with a private sector, partner with the government or hand it off. so we -- this all started in america before the constitution was ratified when benjamin franklin organized the first volunteer fire department in philadelphia. now, fast forward 200 years. all these intelligent and sometimes wealthy people and representing successful
