cnn meteorologist chad myers has your forecast. i thought of you this morning when i didn't put a coat on because you said it was going to be 17 degrees warmer than normal. and it is. >> it is beautiful today. and it'll be colder tomorrow, but it is all the way across the southeast nice and warm. showers in atlanta, showers in charlotte. i get that. that may slow down the airport there in atlanta or charlotte, two major hubs here. a lot of fog around too. that's just part of the humidity in the air. that will continue throughout the day. record highs set across the country yesterday, at least south of that front that just went by. it does get colder. a cold front comes by, makes it more seasonal. around 40 in new york city, not 57 or 60 like you're going to be today. even making a run at 70 in washington, d.c. look at these numbers from yesterday. houston hit 84. sarasota, 86. even louisville, kentucky, hit a record high of 76 degrees. enjoying the day to return the gifts, i guess, but it's going to get colder. pay back is you know

cnn's chad myers has the forecast. >> this weather is brought to you by humana.e think great things are ahead of you if your health is ready for it. more tornadoes in the future because dixie alley has its tornado season in the fall. and we saw dozens of tornadoes over this week. hard to say much about anything, how good this week could be other than the rain that came down with it. still, the death toll from the tornadoes over this week stands at five. we will see the rainfall, though, help the firefighters. this is one of the beneficial things that happened over the week. almost four inches of rain fell in the wildfire area there in tennessee, parts of georgia and alabama. more than just the one fire. the one fire that we focused on in gatlinburg got all the national attention, but dozens of fires out there. the rainfall starts here across the northeast and kind of windy today and heavy snow in the mountains up there in maine. good skiing in some spots, i guess, if you're going to be a skier. what you'll notice for the next few days, much cooler weather, john.

we turn to meteorologist chad myers and merry after christmas, chad. >> happy boxing day to some of youare you? the big snow is the dakotas and northern minnesota. that is the area of major impact. not a huge airport travel hub in that area. in the new york city area, it's warm, in the 40s. could be some freezing rain upstate in the valleys. watch this morning. temperatures around 31 or 32 and a little bit of mist. that is nothing like what they're seeing out here in the blizzard conditions of the upper midwest. that is no way to run a railroad. let me tell you that wind is blowing 40, 60 miles per hour at times and drifts are everywhere. there are advisories to stay off the roads in parts of the dakotas. but everywhere else it's green or blue depending on your color. it is not snow, it is warm enough to be rain. that's the good news. rain temperatures all the way across the northeast. 41 for new york city. no major snows for the rest of this travel up and down the east coast. >> the hardy folks of the good state of minnesota. >> you are one. >> i am one. can handle this as can my frien

cnn meteorologist chad myers has the forecast. what does it look like, chad?alisyn, this is probably the coldest air in ten months for some people coming down from the north. bismarck, north dakota, will approach 15 degrees below zero for morning low temperatures by friday morning. that's a rain event for the east coast today. i think airports will be slow today because of that rain. but the big story truly is the cold air thalt t'll be coming d. yes, there will be snow. but the story is the front that will affect millions of people, probably hundreds of millions of people. it gets all the way down to florida. so what are we talking about? we're talking about global air mass that's coming down from the poles, coming down from santa claus land, coming down all the way into the dakotas, into minnesota, across chicago, and eventually into new york city. new york, you're still going to have lows around 20. chicago will be somewhere around 12. minneapolis, the lows will be around 7. you get up into minnesota and wisconsin, your morning low temperatures with wind wi

chad myers with the forecast. hi, schad. >> hi, don, happy. of the country that's all we're talking about. minnesota, south dakota, north dakota, maybe back into parts of nebraska and maybe i-76, i-70 on the way to denver. that's it. everybody else across the eastern half of the country is above normal. now, there still may be a little bit of ice upstate new york. a little bit of ice. but that's all it takes. you don't need six inches of ice to make really roads a lot slipperier than they could be. we are going to see the potential for that ice across parts of upstate from even parts of the poconos into the adirondacks and catskills. that's it. the blizzard conditions are just confined right up there to parts of dakotas, where winds are blowing at 30 miles per hour. windchills are 15 to 30 degrees below zero. it is very cold there. travel should be in pretty good shape across the rest of the country as we see our warmer than normal temperatures across the eastern half. things look good all rainfall. not really anything to make significant dela
