let's go to chad myers in the cnn weather center. hi there, chad. what can you tell us about this? >> reporter: we think of severe weather season being the spring. the exact opposite happens now. the cold air trays to push the air back down and there is a clash. the winter or fall is not nearly as strong as the spring season. but 18 tornados yesterday. some of the pictures i saw live from storm chaser were easily ef-3. so 150 or more miles per hour. this was the beginning of the storm. as it moved to the north and across the red river into oklahoma, they were long, live tornados. they were on the ground a very long time. they were a quarter to half a mile wide at the base. so this is the damage we're seeing this morning. obviously, the tornados down to the south. but there was golf-ball sized hail in madison, wisconsin yesterday from the same system. now, the threat of tornados has gone away. at least most of it has. now the threat is a wind threat. it's more of a squall line. it is the line that will push wind ahead of it. it's in jackson, mississippi now, down to louisiana to the

. >>> meteorologist chad myers is live at cnn weather center. so clhad, east coast looks grea and middle of the country doesn't look so great and later in the week weather may get in the way. >> two separate systems in texas and another one that will develop almost in the exact same spot over the northeast on sunday. today, though, in and out of the northeast at parades, fantastic. big parade in houston getting a little bit wet to your south side here. make sure you have an umbrella or a poncho if you're heading out there. back out to the northwest of there, there is snow on the ground. 6 to 8 inches of snow. let me take you now day by day. tomorrow the rain that is here moved off shore but another system south of houston moves up into the same area. that is the weather that is going to get in the way for sunday. that low right there will be right here, right over the big airports by sunday afternoon. here is how it maps out. three to five inches of rain across the south and then eventually it gets off toward the northeast. here is your sunday.

let's go to meteorologist chad myers in the cnn weather center for more on this. t off-season, right, chad? >> it is. except there's a small fall season that we know exists. we have winter trying to push back summer. so it's the clash of the two air masses, and when they get together, you get this. now every red square you that see here, that's a tornado warning that was issued yesterday. every symbol with the tornado, that's the 18 that actually did touch down. weather service will be out later today, seeing how big they are, seeing if there were more, if they skipped along. those of those things to be determined sometimes that takes days. that hail all the way from madison, wisconsin so from lake michigan all the way down to the gulf coast that's how big this system was, and still is. although the tornado threat is gone, it's a wind and lightning threat now for today. and the wind across parts of the great lakes could be gusting to 60 miles per hour here. that could bring down some power lines and take out your power. the threat of severe weather, though, in a sm

let's bring in cnn meteorologist chad myers. chad, good to see you.he latest and what's in store for today? >> people don't think about fall being a severe weather season but there is a mini season that we have. yes, we are kind of in it right now, fred. good to see you and good morning. 18 reports of tornados on the ground yesterday. they could be plus or minus a few when the weather service goes out and sees whether one skipped around or not. that's irrelevant. there was an awful lot of damage with very large tornados, certainly some of the damage that i have seen and some of the video live these were ef-3 or more tornados. big tornados. 150 miles per hour spinning around for a long time for many miles on end. talk about miles. there was golf ball-sized hail in madison, wisconsin, yesterday. and there was severe weather all the way down to the gulf coast in the same line of weather. that's how big this storm was. and it was even snowing in parts of kansas this morning. now, what i'm worried about today is the lightning that's going to be out there.

cnn meteorologist chad myers joins me now. chad, we've gotten off to a pretty good start. later in the week. >> getaway tuesday, getaway wednesday, it looks really good. get home saturday, get home sunday, maybe not so good. the only real problem we have today is pacific northwest snow. a couple of thunderstorms across parts of florida. but this is the snow that is going to come down over the next few days. maybe even down toward the passes which means getting overto the other side of the cascades could be a little bit tricky at times. but this is the biggest thing for the next couple of days. then all of a sudden things begin to develop in the plains. temperatures nice and mild for thanksgiving. 65 in atlanta and we haven't seen that in weeks. 56 in chicago. we'll take that. but here is where it all kind of goes downhill. hoo here is friday morning. notice the rain across the parts of the southeast. and people aren't traveling on friday but airports could be slow here. and then look around i-40 around amarillo and new mexico, that is a potential snowstorm. as the storm pr

chad myers has your forecast. chad, good morning. >> good morning, erica. it could get a little bit bumpy for flights tomorrow for sure. now rain this morning. kind of a wet black friday, i called it a slick friday because the rain has moved up toward boston, new york. a slight delay out of miami but nothing to speak of. but here is what is next. the next storm that is developing in parts of west texas, snowing in parts of new mexico and west texas. i-10, 20 and 40 could get in there. and also some very heavy rainfall in houston. that could slow some things down as we work our way into saturday and then finally we move this, yes, by sunday, right over the northeast airports. so if you're sick of your relatives already, maybe you want to reschedule that sunday flight or if you like that you could move that up to about wednesday. because things are looking slow for your sunday if we're trying to push 2 million people through the airports. really slows down there. also some slowdowns on the road because we'll see so much rainfall across the deep south. erica.

chad myers is live in the cnn weather center. leyla, let's start with you. >> reporter: i think this is the strongest wind i've felt since we've been out this morning, kind of making our way north. earlier we were in melbourne, now in titusville. let's show you what it looks like in terms of the water that is rising. you can see the wind really showing in the trees, the water coming in. this is an area we should mention that saw really bad flooding after hurricane ian. so an area that was already vulnerable given the flooding that we saw just six weeks ago here. so i have spoken to emergency operation officials. they're really warning people to stay home because this isn't over yet, especially in those areas where coastal erosion has been deemed an issue just north of where we are right now in vo volusia county, they've deemed dozens of homes unsafe given the coastal erosion. the big thing they're watching is for flooding, for the high tide that's bringing in higher levels of water as well as the impact this will have for coastal erosion as they get out to d

let's go to chad myers for the latest. we're saying winter wallop and joking, this is no joke. this can be deadly and incredibly dangerous, right? >> right. you have zero visibility on many roads this morning. and so, most of the schools have been closed in the buffalo -- anywhere in the nigh ago a frontier. the main stream, the fire hose of snow is right here south of buffalo into hamburg, west seneca, down to lancaster. that's the area -- those are the areas picking up the heavy snow now. on the other side, upstate new york from lake ontario, it's snowing in watertown. williamstown has already picked up 2 feet. this is not williamsville, this is near syracuse. but where the game would have been played already a foot and a half. lake effect snow warning still in effect. what's going to happen today? the wind is going to shuifts. the winds are south of buffalo, later tonight into tomorrow the winds shift farther to the north and buffalo, williamsville, tonawanda, you're in it. these are areas going to pick up 2 to 3 inches of snow in an hour. i guess we are going to see signifi

meteorologist chad myers tracking it all for us in the cnn weather center. who is having a pretty thanksgiving and maybe a not-so-pretty thanksgiving. >> new york city is having a very, very nice thanksgiving with the parade going on. the people from the show me state down to the hill country of texas, those are the people that are now seeing the rain showers, the thunderstorms. back out to the west, on the colder side of this, there's actually snow coming down. that could be a little problematic when it comes to driving. back to what pete said, i don't think i've ever heard of an airline never having one cancellation in a day. pretty amazing. good travel today up and down the east coast. 54 in new york city, 60s up and down the coast. the rain comes through tonight and moves away tomorrow. there will be some rain that will eventually hit here. another batch of showers starts to develop across texas. again, a separate system and this is for saturday night. most people will be driving home on sunday. guess where that goes? right back up into the northeast. we
