chad pergram with more on that. chad? >> good afternoon, neil. mitch mcconnell, when we would ask him the past couple years here to comment on the president's tweets or his latest statements, oftentimes he would punt. mitch mcconnell pulled no punches today. he talked about poisoning the path. this is right before -- just minutes before the capitol was assaulted january 6. this was the speech he delivered on the senate floor. today harsh words for the president. he said this mob was spreading lies, provoked by the president and other powerful people. they used fear and violence to stop counting the electoral college. harsh words for mitch mcconnell as president trump exits at this stage. keep in mind that mitch mcconnell is concerned about divide inside the republican party. he doesn't have the majority anymore. he won't after the next couple days. he blames those two georgia senate losses on president trump's rhetoric. that's why there's a summit meaning between mitch mcconnell and the incoming majority leader chuck schumer. they met 30 minutes.
