why don't we move on to the san francisco port. >> good morning, chair chu, president chu, supervisor mirkarimi and members of the audience. the port of san francisco. i have a couple of slides here which i will go through very, very quickly just to give a little background. but i want to start by saying that we have in the audience with us today, we have the port c.f.o. and a couple of our financial analysts, nate cruz and marilyn ya who are both terrific. i wand to comment debra newman for all of her help, as well as the budget staff, megan wallace and greg wagner so it's been a very collaborative process. i'll just say from the outset that we agreed with the budget analyst's recommendations. and we thank them for helping us to put a finer point on our budget. very quickly, by way of background, i think it's always important to review the port's mission. and that is encoded and embedded in state law and in the appendix of the charter. but very quickly, our primary mission is to support maritime commerce, transportation, recreation, personal activities, and public access. and we do t

chair of the budget committee. this year, we have supervisor carmen chu, who has been very difficult and on enviable job, but will be doing a fabulous as the chair of the budget committee. i know supervisor carmen chu will have some words to say. when you are going through, what you have to do bring the budget to balance with the mayor's office, i want to thank you for your services and effort. [applause] district 11, we have many children, families. a lot of folks who have got more organized and have taken part in the civic life in san francisco, political life in san francisco. last year, working with my colleagues on the board of supervisors, we put on two ballot measures to raise taxes on the high end. we had a 2% temporary increase to the hotel tax. we also had a permanent increase to the real estate transfer tax. every year, that raises $35 million in revenue on average. in some years, it will be greater. it taxes, not every day home owners, but homeowners if you with property worth more than $5 million. does anyone here have property worth more than $5 million? i didn't think so. we are middle-class and are w

. >> good morning, chair chu, vice chair mirk reama. we are trying -- mirkarimi. the new lease would carry a term of five years from may 5, 2011, to may 5 -- may 4, 2016. the lease is for a total scare footage of 2,608 of cargo space, ramp space at the airport. this is the exact same space that the airline currently has with us. there has been some reconfiguration from cargo space to office space but the scare footage remains the same. under the proposed lease, the asi anna airlines would pay a rental rate of $it 2 per square foot for a total of $800,000. as the budget analyst report it is a rent reduction of approximately $94,000 a year. we saw a similar rent reduction when the committee approved our cargo lease with china airlines. we'll see this as things come before you where at the end of a few 10-year leases, particularly with some of our cargo tenants and the cargo market is substantially different. much smaller than it was a year ago. so the new lower rental rate is the result of a negotiation between airport staff and the airlines. and we feel that it is
