>> the thinking is that having all of the business groups, not just chambers of commerce like san francisco and oakland and los angeles come to the support of the plan, but also groups like the bay area council and the silicone valley leadership group. today there were two dozen agricultural groups, though not the farm bureau, threw their support behind it. the idea is this would give political cover 0 the republicans who would cross the aisle and vote in favor of it. but you have to look at the way all of these groups are phrasing their statements and the way they are rolling these out. budget cuts are necessary, but can be costly in terms of lost jobs and services. letting the voters decide if temporary tax measures should be extended is appropriate but will evaluate those measures when they are formulated. so they are not saying we want you to raise taxes. they are saying, all right, let the voters decide, let's break the logjam and do this but we want you to address other things of concern. >> is this whistling past the graveyard? and the graveyard being it doesn't get on the ballot or

lee welcome let's just be here have you with us first of all can you sum up chamber gate share in october of last year as the u.s. chamber of commerce the world's largest big business lobby. ramped up their political spending campaign and face a lot of criticism from bloggers like myself from different media outlets they started seeing these attacks and reaching out to a set of private security firms pollens here h.b. gary federal and barrack oh and they asked them to come up with a group proposal to go after their perceived critics the proposals outlined a number of strategies but basically they were looking to hack and sabotage. their their adversaries and in february of this year because of unrelated. hacking from a group called anonymous these e-mails from one of the security firms a federal became public and we found out about this plot. and that brings us to today where there hasn't been a great amount of media attention but now congressional democrats are demanding an investigation. is. this is this seems like the kind of thing the e.u. if you try to catch terrorists that's exactly. the job of these firms. you know palance he

i am chief marketing officer and senior vice president for the san francisco chamber of commerce, and the chamber of commerce is fully in support of the payroll expense tax exclusion. you really are -- [bell rings] i was going to say more. advocating for small businesses and midsize businesses, the kind of companies that had egan had shown up for. i'm representing 1500 member companies, which of chocolate to about 1/3 of the business community, in terms of number of employees. we have strong support for the job incentive because we really feel like it is the newcomers. pedestrian activity, safety, in our once bustling district. as we mentioned before, in an area where the city vacancy rate is at an all-time high. we have recently conducted a citywide hole where sen for assistance were asked about the support for this particular measure, and 70% of voters in san francisco as recently as last month said they supported a payroll tax exemption for new hires and only 19% oppose. the 41,000 unemployed san franciscans -- let's put them back to work. we need creative measures to bring compani

i'm the president of the board of green chamber of commerce. we're based here in san francisco. and as the president of this association with over 400 businesses, i'll offer three reasons why the business community supports this initiative. first of all, this ordinance brings to light a real disparity between what you pay for and what you get with the yellow pages. an ad in the phone book would be distributed to about a million recipients and if every single business and person actually collected the book, it's estimated only 38% or about 370,000 people and businesses actually use the yellow pages. so with the current model i'm paying for exposure to almost 1 million recipients but only getting exposure to 370,000. so if by distributing the books in quantities that were more accurately representing the real population of phone book usersers, this would enforce more honesty in the real estate being paid for. secondly, the cost benefits of this ordinance would be done without negative impact on business's ability to advertise. the yellow page is one of the least targeted forms of a

letters and calls for support, including the giants, the mission bay business association, the chamber of commerce, and many individual business owners, including some dor -- pdr users who have written letters of support. when is the market and timber company. i received this petition from 50 people and handed it to you, and today also received the mission bay business association muttra that is being distributed to you. we all the knowledge that brand new parking garages, new structures, do not follow our transit-first policy, even though this is not downtown, nor do permanent approvals for parking garages in existing buildings follow our transit- first policy. that is why our client is not proposing either one of those. this approval is for an existing building for a five year period, which can be extended only by coming back to your commission. for reasons i will discuss, my client does not intend or hope he needs to come back here for any extension. this particular user is not the highest and best use. it is not the highest paying use. it does not provide an income stream to really fix of this
