what's amazing, lake champlain isn't frozen yet. it's actually been a very mild winter. this is what happens when you have 1 degree temperatures over the water. amazing footage here. this is what i call steam fog. it's extremely cold air going over the unfrozen relatively mild lake. pretty cool video there, lake champlain. let's show you what we're dealing with this morning. windchills are brutal in northern new england. these are actual temperatures. minus 10 and minus 9 in caribou. when we factor in the windchills, we're at minus 21 in minneapolis. minus 21 in burlington. boston is even minus 14. there's one area of travel trouble. one area of snow from washington, d.c. to the coast, southern maryland, about a fluffy one to two inches. could make it slippery this morning. the next storm is on its way. this is going to bring light snow to many areas of the east. details on that, and also tomorrow. that's a look at your national forecast. now, here's a look at weather outside your window. tampa, florida, not a bad place to beat this cold snap. if you're a little snowbird

police say common was shot in the head tuesday afternoon in an alley near 74th and south champlain. he died at the scene. the others were taken to stroger junior hospital. mahomes was charged with one count of first degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder. he's scheduled to appear in court today. loyola campus officials are issuing a warning to students. a student was robbed at gunpoint tuesday night near the roger's park campus. the victim says he was approached by two men one was carrying a handgun. two weeks in a separate incident, another student was also robbed at gunpoint by two men. campus officials are telling students to avoid walking alone and to report suspicious behavior. hundreds of people are planning to march in support of an iconic chicago reggae club. the wild hare restaurant and bar moved from wrigleyville to a new location at 26-10 north halsted a few years ago. since then, its owners have been denied a live music license twice. the owners claim they're being racially discriminated against. neighbors say they're concerned about traffic. tomor

shot in the throat at huron and noble. 29-year-old kevin jemison was shot in the head at 45-th and champlain. and 19-year-old devonta grisson was killed in an apparent drive- by shooting at 58-th and sacramento. in 20-12, there were 506 homicides. a 16 percent increase from 20-11. and while chicago struggles to deal with its homicide rate, illinois' second largest city aurora, didn't record a single homicide in all of 2012. ten years earlier, the city's homicide total reached 25. but the number has gradually declined from year to year since then. aurora police credits the decline to "proactive police work. chicago police superintendent garry mc-carthy started the new year by helping his own officers make an arrest. mc-carthy was riding along with two officers, when they made a gun bust. montrez armstead is being held on bond for felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. police say armstead had a loaded gun with him when he was pulled over by mc-carthy and two officers early yesterday morning. the police department says mc- carthy goes on patrols frequently, and this was not his first arres
