kpix 5's lisa chan is in our newsroom with more. good morning lisa. >> reporter: good morning, this interstate is the main route between california and arizona. and engineers will assess the tack to the bridge this morning. the damage is being blamed on heavy rains and flooding that shut down the freeway. a bridge 50 miles west of the arizona state line washed away. traffic headed toward arizona was forced to turn around and one driver was injured. the riverside county fire department had to extract that driver who crashed in the collapse. rain, thunder and lightning fell over southern california in a rare summer storm system. this caused power outages and downed trees and water rescues and beach closures. firefighters worked to keep mud out of half a dozen homes. >> there's firefighters out there as well as a lot of heavy equipment operators. that are trying to get that mud and debris up. we're working as quick as we can. >> reporter: these storms dropped as much as four inches of rain in some areas and forecasters are predicting m
