. >> channa, to katie's point about a freight train of emotion, here is how floyd family attorney ben described the defense strategy so far. >> i think the defense is doing what we all anticipated they would do, which is assassinate george floyd's character in an attempt to distract everyone from focusing in on that video. >> what's your take, channa, to these characterizations of floyd? there was a moving description of floyd from his girlfriend. >> they'll have to focus on what caused the death, what caused him to pass. they'll focus on the medicine, how much drugs were in his system, what he was on, the effects of those drugs on the human body. and i think you're going to see them take a methodical approach to this next session. they're going to be looking to take it out of that emotion and bring it down to this very technical medical portion of this trial. i think you're going to see a lot that have now from the defense. >> katie, both legal teams have released lists of hundreds of potential witnesses. how many do you expect they'll actually call? what does that mean for the timel

channa?lly significant as well about this particular witness is oftentimes when we're talking about use of force and law enforcement, people typically think about the continuum of force as escalating. what they did a very good job of pointing out is there's actually an opposite end on the same continuum. there's also de-escalation. and that's significant. because on this decision making tree, you are assessing different bits of information, but just as you can escalate force, you can also de-escalate. and i think the state was able to tease that out, and that's going to be very important for our juries because we want them to think, if that is the state, that there is this continuum of force, just as easily as he was assessing threats, he could have seen that this medical attention required a little bit more. it was more of a priority and de-escalated the force he was using. >> we are also lucky to be joined by msnbc's shaq brewster. shaq, that was a dizzying round we were coming in and out o

>> correct, 1,000%, yes, it should not have happened. >> and, channa, in chicago we saw the body cam footage of the shooting of 13-year-old adam toledo. a lawyer for the officer accused in the shooting said his actions were justified because of that split-second decision. is that enough? >> it's going to be a tough decision to make on that, but officers have a tough job to do with these split-second decisions. he was running. he came upon him. he saw him with a weapon and saw him reach behind the fence and turn around. you know, i think we're going to be looking at very nuanced videos. i think we'll look at the time frame because apparently there's 19 seconds between when he exited the vehicle and when he got to the young man, but the critical moment is going to be when he actually issued that order, did he wait long enough to see what this young man was doing? >> and, dan, just briefly, we also have been watching these terrible mass shootings across the country. you had one in indianapolis. the family of the shooter had alerted police, the fbi was involved that he might try suicide

from the defense i think channa is right.ou're going to see them again come back to reasonable doubt. remember, they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt he was a substantial cause of death and look at these other possibilities. >> channa, the case almost in the hands of the jury now. what are the challenges for them as you see it? >> well, first the jury has to determine, as dan said, if chauvin was the substantial cause of death. once they've established that, they then need to look at his actions and determine what level of care he used. was it a reckless act? did he intend to commit the underlying felony for the second degree murder, or was it simply something that he was doing that was an endangerment when looking at the manslaughter? so those are the determinations a jury is going to have to make. >> channa lloyd and dan abrams, thank you so much. t.j.? >>> cecilia, george, after 15 minutes, i'm going to show you now people being good to each other. >> yay! >> let's turn now to this rescue. this is in florida, panama

. >>> i want to bring in channa lloyd, managing partner at the cochran firm.hese videos are just horrific to watch and they set them up back-to-back-to-back essentially in the courtroom. is that a part of the strategy to do it that way? >> i believe it is. what they're trying to do is take an emotionally charged video and cause the jury to turn around, desensitize a little bit and just enough they're paying enough attention to what the other officers were doing, the fact that george floyd was there and not resisting and other crucial facts. >> we are in the country familiar with one particular george floyd video, if you will. we saw everybody's perspective, the bystanders, the police officers, everyone's perspective that day. why did the prosecution want to organize the videos that way? >> because it gives you a framework. the bystanders were very clear and very conscious of saying each and every one he was not resisting, it was very clear he was unconscious. when you look at each of the officers' body cams you start to notice if he's moving and see he is not

. >>> let's bring in chief legal analyst dan abrams and channa lloyd, managing partner at the cochranith you. we know the jury will be sequestered later, but the defense wanted them sequestered now. because of this police killing right next door in minneapolis. the judge denied it. surprise you? >> no, it didn't, primarily because the judge hadn't sequestered the jury up to this point. remember, all of these jurors are prospective jurors. before this happened they knew that there had been protests in the wake of george floyd's death, so that is very different than saying that there were suddenly protests in the wake of a verdict in some case, and that's where the judge drew the line. remember, i think some people presume that juries are sequestered far more often than they are. it's very, very rare to sequester a jury, and it creates its own set of problems and issues, et cetera, so i wasn't surprised that the judge refused that request. >> okay, channa, let's talk about the prosecution's case, just about to wrap it up. how did they do? >> i think they laid a very solid foundation. th
