[ chanting ] >> reporter: and retaliate they did. the uc-santa cruz student protestors blocked all access to the campus. it forced the university to send an alert to students, faculty and staff that the campus is shut down over what it calls a major disruption. >> people live on campus and have, you know, appointments they need to get to, child care facilities, they need to take their kids. so this sort of ripples from this event are felt far beyond just the classroom. >> reporter: demonstrators are protesting potential tuition hikes at ucs, as part of a week- long of protests that included blocking the highway 17 highway 1 interchange on tuesday. six students were arrested. the uc regents have said to you wigs increases could happen if they don't get enough money from the state. >> students' hands are forced. they are acting out of a desperate situation. we are talking about school costing $30,000 a year to be able to attend here.
